Book Review: Keep Her Safe

Keep Her Safe has an intriguing synopsis. I’ve been trying to get back into reading thrillers lately, because I used to really like them, but I’m picky about which ones interest me, so I look for a blurb that grabs me. The idea of a famous girl that disappeared turning up at a 5-star resort after being spotted by a typical woman from Britain who was dealing with problems of her own? I was sold. Now this book wasn’t bad, but I just wasn’t convinced that the story was told as well as it could have been. I definitely got a more »

Book Review: Walk on Earth a Stranger

This is going to be somewhat odd – I really liked Girl of Fire and Thorns, but I never finished the series. I felt somewhat bad about it, because this author is amazing. When she announced her next book, I was thrilled – I was going to jump all over her new series. Even though I am not a fan of western novels, religion or this time period, I couldn’t pass up the Oregon Trail comparison. If you didn’t play the video game in your youth, my heart cries for you. I won a copy of the signed ARC from more »

Book Review: Awakening

Awakening had all the makings of something to be excellent but it fell a little short for me in the end. I gave it an average rating, because that’s all it was to me. Average. Not something I want to go shouting from the rooftops, but it was definitely a readable, entertaining book that had me decide I would most likely read a lot more work from this author in the future. What set it apart is the world-building. I really liked how this world had been crafted and most often felt like I was reading pieces of the more »

Book Review: The Winner’s Curse

Love it, like it or loathe it, no matter where you stand on The Winner’s Curse, there is no denying that this book was a hotly debated and muchly sought release for 2014. With a title promising something along the lines of bittersweet, and a cover that caught the attention, adoration and some flack, Rutkoski’s novel could not be ignored for YA lovers this year. I won this copy from Christina’s comment giveaway. When she offered a title released in the month I won, I KNEW that I was going to snag this book. The debates and curious comments regarding the more »

Book Review: The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

For a while, I kind of cut back on the amount of dystopias I was reading.  It seemed like every single book coming out what a dystopia, and the first of a trilogy.  The Darkest Minds fits that description, and it came out right at the peak of the trend.  So, yes, I was excited I won a copy, but I put it off for a long time because I was just so burnt out by the genre. I’m really glad I picked this book up when I did though.  I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, more »

Book Review: Kinslayer by Jay Kristoff

Book Review: Kinslayer by Jay Kristoff

I was one of the bloggers that raved about Stormdancer last year. And while Kinslayer was a mindblowing follow up to that book, it was also different in many ways. Some of which I liked, and some not so much. I like to mix it up a little, so I am going to do this review in sections again. Characters (4/5 stars): My love for Yukiko and Buruu are off the charts, as usual. Buruu gives the book all its humor with his fantastic one-liners as he tries to understand Yukiko’s feelings and emotions, usually failing but not failing to more »
