Book Review: Rosie Girl

I can’t even begin to express how disappointing this book was. It was hardly promoted, and I was looking forward to helping it out in that respect, but I honestly can’t recommend it and wish I could get back the time spent reading it. There were times when I felt I would be better off DNFing it, but I wanted to know how the mystery would turn out. I thought about flipping to the end to get the answer, but I was reluctant to do that. In hindsight, I should have. Rosie Girl is a book about a teen girl more »

Book Review: The Hush

It’s always an exciting thing when a book catches you by surprise in a totally unexpected way. I didn’t expect a thing from The Hush; in fact, I’m trying to make my way through the books I am behind on quickly, and I was prepared to DNF this one. Instead, I found myself enraptured by like page ten. It really is that good. The Hush started was published first in Australia, and I do believe this is the author’s first published work in America. I’m really thankful, and I hope they publish more because she has a GREAT imagination, and more »

Book Review: Yesterday

Oh boy, where do I start? Let’s start with how I acquired this book. Little, Brown was kind enough to send me a copy for review, as it was one of my most anticipated reads of 2017. Most of my anticipated reads for 2017 have been fabulous, so I was hoping for the same with Yesterday. But it just didn’t work for me at all. So where did it all go wrong? Let’s start with the world-building, because world-building in books like this is incredibly important. Swiss cheese. So many holes. I understand what the author was trying to accomplish, more »

Book Review: City of Saints and Thieves

I didn’t really know what to expect from this book, but I had heard so many good things about it. I kind of hate myself for letting it sit unread by my bedside for so long. I enjoyed myself quite a bit. City of Saints and Thieves is the story of Tina, and her struggle to build herself and her sister a happy life after the devastating murder of her mother. It’s set in Kenya and Congo, and the author brings the setting to life in an atmospheric way. I can completely see why the film rights for this movie have more »

Book Review: The Truth About Happily Ever After

Book Review: The Truth About Happily Ever After

The Truth About Happily Ever After was surprisingly charming. It wasn’t perfect, by any means, and I strongly disliked it at first (even thought about DNFing), but it grew on me like a bad rash. If you’re looking for something fun and light-hearted set in a park like Disney, I think you will probably enjoy this. My main issue was suspension of disbelief. The author created this Disney World-like setting that was not Disney, set in Tallahassee and called Enchanted Dominion, and it was just not something I could go along with, as a reader. My settings have to be more »

Book Review: Edgeland

Book Review: Edgeland

I am so addicted to this series. It’s incredibly fucking weird and weird doesn’t always work for me, but I love the world-building and the imagination of the authors. Edgeland is a standalone sequel to Nightfall, which I also loved. I am aware that that book didn’t work for everybody, but if it worked for you, you will most likely enjoy Edgeland as well. You don’t have to have read Nightfall to enjoy Edgeland either, but you should read it at some point anyway because the authors have mentioned that they want to make characters from both meet in the more »
