Book Review: Autofocus by Lauren Gibaldi

I just realized that Lauren Gibaldi was the same author who wrote The Night We Said Yes. Well, that explains the fabulousness of this book, HAHA. Autofocus was definitely one of the tear-jerking books I have read in 2016. I mean, it’s only February, and so many books have made me shed buckets of tears. Don’t you agree? Anyway, Autofocus started out a little bit too slow for my liking, but I still kept on reading because it introduces the main character, Maude, who is REALLY REALLY cute. I know I rarely say that about female MCs, but really, I more »

Book Review: Behold the Bones

This series keeps getting better and better. It took a little while to get going, but once it did, the story was great! I loved being back with these three girls, and everything about their friendship in Beware the Wild came back to me immediately. And yet the recapping never slowed the pace or felt out of place. It takes a skilled author to summarize previous books and not make it come off awkward and stilted. Maybe it’s because I’ve read so many books, but it’s always very obvious me, to the point where it feels like the author is more »

Book Review: The Mystery of Hollow Places

I was diagnosed with depression sometime back in 2010. I was going through a really tough time. I didn’t know what was wrong with me, but I was overly emotional, angry, impatient, I wasn’t sleeping well, and I lacked motivation to do anything. As hard as it was for me, I think it was even harder on my husband. I got help, and while it wasn’t a cure-all, the medication I was put on, did help, and I was better able to deal with what was happening to me. The one thing I really want to make clear though, is more »

Book Review: The Girl From Everywhere

When you have to write a book review that you really don’t want to write because you expected to love the book, but you didn’t. And the author is so awesome on Twitter that I really wanted to love it, but it’s kind of a “it’s not you, it’e me” type of situation. I am saddened. This is one of those times where my reading experience was just kind of weird. I kept expecting to get into the book at some point, but it never went beyond the surface for me. The story was entertaining and I really loved the more »

Book Review: Other Broken Things

I felt really horrible about this, but I started off this book on a very bad note. I just was not impressed with the main character, Natalie. She was rude, horrible, and at one point of time, she actually said this: “Driving was stupid. I get that. But I wasn’t plastered. I’ve been way drunker, and frankly, the whole things would’ve been fine if I hadn’t hit the wet road. And if I hadn’t been distracted by the shit show of my life. The “legally drunk” thing is sort of bullshit. You hit your legal drunk limit after one drink. more »

Review: The Impostor Queen

I buddy-read this book with Rachel from Go Read A Book, and woah, I was at one of my slowest moments. HAHA I think she finished reading the book like a day before me, because I was swamped with work. And this is my first time in a long time doing buddy-reads, and I have forgotten how amazing it feels to be able to rant to someone else about the book you’re reading, without worrying about accidentally giving out spoilers. Anyway, I’ve heard many many great things about The Impostor Queen since last year, when the first ARCs came out and I’ve more »
