Book Review: Blackfin Sky

If everyone you knew thought you had died and you showed up alive the next day, what do you think they would do? What would you do? That’s one of the main plot points of Blackfin Sky. Skylar mysteriously disappears off the end of the pier the evening of her birthday party, and drowns. But three months later, she magically appears in town, much to the surprise or her family and friends. Weird things always happen in the town of Blackfin, but this is just beyond. Who did they bury in the cemetery when Skylar died? Unfortunately, that’s not a question I more »

Book Review: Lies We Tell Ourselves

There are rare moments in a reader’s life when you pick up a book and it impacts you in ways that words can’t even begin to describe what you’re left feeling at the end. The emotion I still have from Lies We Tell Ourselves is a huge chaotic thunderstorm inside my head. Where do I begin? I’ll admit that before I started reading, I didn’t know what to expect. So I didn’t take it too seriously at first. I thought it was going to be another quick read. I knew absolutely nothing about it other than it was a historical set more »

Book Review: I’ll Give You The Sun

You’re probably all going to yell at me for this one: I’m sort of the black sheep when it comes to this book. So I’m going to be blunt and just be quick here like ripping off a band-aid. I thought I’ll Give You The Sun was just… okay. I know, I know. It’s only got about a gazillion rave reviews. And pretty much everyone I know that has read it has practically screamed from the rooftops that it’s not to be missed. I tried. I really did. The writing is beautiful. There is no doubting that. And there is more »

Book Review: Heir of Fire

I don’t know where to begin with Heir of Fire, tbh. It wasn’t what I quite expected going into it and I’m not saying that in a bad way. I thought Crown of Midnight was great? Gah. I really have no words to describe my emotions toward how I feel, what I think of when I hear “Heir of Fire.” Because here’s the thing: Just thinking about this book hurts me. I’ll be the first to admit it, too. I’m a Dorian fanatic. Chaol? Who the hell cares about him? Not me! Okay. Okay. I do care about Chaol. A more »

Book Review: I’ll Give You The Sun

I’ve been wanting to read this book for a long time. I absolutely loved The Sky is Everywhere when I read it years ago; I’ve reread it like five times. I’m obsessed. I’ll Give You the Sun was in my top three to pick up at BEA – in fact, it was the first book I grabbed on the first morning. So I’ve been sitting on it since May and it’s been glaring down at my from my shelf for all this time. I was nervous and scared. How could anything live up to The Sky is Everywhere? For me, more »
