Book Review: My Best Friend’s Exorcism

I don’t know exactly where to begin with this book, tbh. This had all the makings to be a perfect me book. Campy, 80s setting with suspense and the strange. What particularly drew my attention to this title was that it’d been on a list of books to read if you love Stranger Things. (Don’t know what Stranger Things is? Get on Netflix now.) I also have an odd adoration to that cover. Yeah yeah, don’t judge a book by a cover… But you and I both know that everyone does it anyway. It’s not a terrible book at all. more »

Book Review: My Best Friend’s Exorcism

I can’t say that I knew about My Best Friend’s Exorcism before it was pitched to me by the publisher, but once I started reading it, I liked it immediately. I had a feeling it was going to be a little of a black comedy/horror, and it was a bit. That’s how Horrorstor was for me too, and as much as I wanted to love Horrorstor, in the end, it just fell flat for me. There were things I liked, however, and it was enough for me to read the author’s next book. Hence why I agreed to review My Best more »

Blog Tour: My Best Friend’s Exorcism

I love Quirk Books. I really do. They publish some of the most unique books I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. Though not everything has been my favorite, I so appreciate how different they are as a publisher. They take risks, and they’re doing what no other publisher is doing. So when they asked me to be part of a blog tour, of course I was going to say yes. I’ll do whatever I can to make them visible and to get their books out there where our blog readers can see them! We have Grady Hendrix on the more »

Book Review + Giveaway: Warren the 13th and the All-Seeing Eye

As an adult, I read middle grade to escape, because it’s all about the adventure, and sometimes I don’t want to read something super heavy. (Not that middle grade can’t be, but I generally don’t read that kind.) I want to read about magic and monsters and talking animals. But sometimes, as does happen when you read books that aren’t written with you in mind, a voice will skew too young for me. That’s what happened with Warren the 13th and the All-Seeing Eye. It’s not that I didn’t enjoy it though. I really loved the illustrations, but the story more »

Book Review: Library of Souls

And with that, Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children has come to an end. I tried to review it earlier this week actually, but instead I ended up needing to savor it just a bit longer before gathering my thoughts together to move on. When a series ends, and I’ve adored that series enough to go through all of installments within their respective releases, it always hits me like saying goodbye to friends. Not quite gone forever because I know there will be re-reads (and movies), but it can still be emotionally hard. I know I’m not the only reader like this. more »
