Better Late Than Never: Reviews of eARCs For The Lazy

Do you have review copies piling up? Do you have eARCs that you requested but never got to because you got overwhelmed by life? Or did you just bite off more than you can chew? (That’s me.) At some point I was still hoping I could review those books, even though my review wouldn’t really be of use to the publisher anymore because it would be still useful to readers, and also to me, because the pile-up was giving me anxiety every time I thought about it. So since it was the new year, I tried my best to suck more »

Book Review: This Savage Song

Baa, baa, black sheep have you any wool? Yes sir, yes sir three bags full. That is me right now because…I didn’t really enjoy This Savage Song all that much. There’s no denying that Victoria Schwab can write, and I have liked her books in the past. I really enjoyed The Near Witch and Vicious. I read part of The Archived and really liked that too but then I put it down when I realized the series wasn’t finished and might never get a conclusion. But I also didn’t love A Darker Shade of Magic. I DNFed that due to pacing more »

Book Review: The Girl From Everywhere

When you have to write a book review that you really don’t want to write because you expected to love the book, but you didn’t. And the author is so awesome on Twitter that I really wanted to love it, but it’s kind of a “it’s not you, it’e me” type of situation. I am saddened. This is one of those times where my reading experience was just kind of weird. I kept expecting to get into the book at some point, but it never went beyond the surface for me. The story was entertaining and I really loved the more »

Book Review: Walk on Earth a Stranger

This is going to be somewhat odd – I really liked Girl of Fire and Thorns, but I never finished the series. I felt somewhat bad about it, because this author is amazing. When she announced her next book, I was thrilled – I was going to jump all over her new series. Even though I am not a fan of western novels, religion or this time period, I couldn’t pass up the Oregon Trail comparison. If you didn’t play the video game in your youth, my heart cries for you. I won a copy of the signed ARC from more »

Book Review: Stray

I’ve had my share of DNF reads this year, mostly because I want to keep my pace and get on to next book if I can’t keep going with the current. Not all DNF books from this year have meant something bad, some I have made note to go back at a later time when there’s more room in my schedule (or to put on to my reading list for 2016) and try again. But then there are the ones where I just know I’ll never want anything to do with again because there was something about them. I can’t more »

Book Review: Poisoned Apples: Poems for You, My Pretty

Book Review: Poisoned Apples: Poems for You, My Pretty

One of the best reading moments is when I find a book that looks like something I’m gonna LOVE and then it delivers 100%.  When the right book hits the right reader, magic happens.  It happened for me with Poisoned Apples. Poisoned Apples: Poems for You, My Pretty is a short book, but it is not lacking in material or emotional punch.  These poems are short and concise but each delivers its message unwaveringly.  These words are scathing and raw and urgent and so honest.  I feel like Heppermann captured the feeling of being a teenage girl, or honestly a more »
