Book Review: Gunslinger Girl

I loved this book so, so, so much. The storytelling is fabulous, and the twists that come out of nowhere, OHMIGOD. I haven’t been this surprised by a book since I don’t know when. The author is an EXCELLENT writer as well. The only thing I wish? There was a fair amount of world-building, but I wanted more. I wanted to know about how this war happened, and what led to the degradation of the government and society that led to this second civil war and how the sides panned out and who went to where. I think the current more »

Many people are tired and have moved on from the dystopian genre. BUT NOT ME! As long as authors continue to come up with original ideas, I will keep reading them. And man is this duology an original story. Okay, so there’s a bit of a Red Rising vibe, but I DNFed that and I adore this, so it can’t be that similar. I will admit, I didn’t like this installment quite as much as the last one, but I still really enjoyed it. My favorite thing about this duology is how tense it is, and how much I love more »

Book Review: The Salt Line

I don’t give 5 stars easily, but this book deserved every one of them. It was memorable, terrifying, and one of the most tense novels I have ever read. Maybe I should give it 4.5 stars because the pacing had a few issues early on with bad placement of flashbacks, but I can’t justify it. This book was really that good. Why? ~Killer world-building. Figuratively and literally. Those ticks will kill you, but the book is about so much more than just killer ticks. It’s a rich world with depth. ~Flawed but lovable characters. I adored Marta and Wes. Book Review: The Song Rising

It’s really hard to review middle books of a series so I’m going to keep it short and simple. If you aren’t already reading this series, what do I need to do to convince you to pick it up? I know a seven book series is a lot, but the author has already published three of those seven books so you know she’s committed, and hey, Harry Potter was a seven book series, and this series is almost that good, in my opinion. It’s completely different, of course, and the only thing it has in common with HP is the more »

Book Review: The Diabolic

I absolutely adored S.J. Kincaid’s first book, Insignia. I have not finished that series yet (I own it though), but when I heard the buzz about this book and saw it at ALA, I knew I had to pick it up. I wasn’t sure about the synopsis, actually. I am picky about which books I actually read. Heck, sometimes I pick up books due to the synopsis, and then months later, decide I don’t want to read them after all. And then sometimes I use random.org to choose which book I will read next. But with this one, I actually more »

An Adult, a Young Adult, and a Middle Grade #1

Helllllloooo. Welcome to this new thing I’m trying. I’ve been going through some major, MAJOR blogger burnout. I haven’t felt like writing reviews and I’ve only wanted to read. Book after book after book. Let’s be real. Writing reviews can be a really tedious thing if it’s not something that feels like a strength. For me, it isn’t. I’ve never felt like I was great at writing reviews at all. For a while there I felt like I was improving, but then it sort of plateaued and…yeah. So I’m going to try something new. Writing short reviews. And to keep more »
