Better Late Than Never: Reviews of eARCs/ARCs For The Lazy (5)

Welcome to another edition of Better Late Than Never: Reviews of eARCs/ARCs for the Lazy! Do you have review copies piling up? Do you have eARCs that you requested but never got to because you got overwhelmed by life? Or did you just bite off more than you can chew? (That’s me.) At some point I was still hoping I could review these books (even though my review wouldn’t really be of use to the publisher anymore) because it would be still useful to readers, and also to me, because the pile-up was giving me anxiety every time I thought more »

Book Review: Rosie Girl

I can’t even begin to express how disappointing this book was. It was hardly promoted, and I was looking forward to helping it out in that respect, but I honestly can’t recommend it and wish I could get back the time spent reading it. There were times when I felt I would be better off DNFing it, but I wanted to know how the mystery would turn out. I thought about flipping to the end to get the answer, but I was reluctant to do that. In hindsight, I should have. Rosie Girl is a book about a teen girl more »

I wanted to review this as soon as I finished it, but when a book causes such an emotional impact, it’s not always the smartest thing to review it right away. So I waited until the following day, and I’m sort of glad I did because my thoughts were all a jumble. I wanted to give this book five stars–it almost deserves five stars, but the ending felt a little off for me, and I DO think it’s fair for me to downrate a book because I don’t agree with the way the author ended the book. I wasn’t sure more »

Book Review: The Truth About Happily Ever After

Book Review: The Truth About Happily Ever After

The Truth About Happily Ever After was surprisingly charming. It wasn’t perfect, by any means, and I strongly disliked it at first (even thought about DNFing), but it grew on me like a bad rash. If you’re looking for something fun and light-hearted set in a park like Disney, I think you will probably enjoy this. My main issue was suspension of disbelief. The author created this Disney World-like setting that was not Disney, set in Tallahassee and called Enchanted Dominion, and it was just not something I could go along with, as a reader. My settings have to be more »

Book Review: Songs About A Girl

First things first, if scenes of bullying bother you, I would not read this book. This is sort of a trigger warning, because I was bullied really badly in school, and if I had not yet come to terms with it and I was still working through it, this book my have made me have a panic attack or a breakdown. Most of it is just taunting, but there is one particular scene that was disturbing and vivid to me, and so I just want to warn people of that if they would have trouble with it. Songs About A more »
