Book Review: Crooked Kingdom

I would have come for you. And if I couldn’t walk, I’d crawl to you, and no matter how broken we were, we’d fight our way out together-knives drawn, pistols blazing. Because that’s what we do. We never stop fighting. I AM NOT OKAY. LIKE NOPE NU-UH. Yknow, I finished this book two weeks ago and I AM SO NOT OVER IT. I can still remember vividly what happened in the book, and oh damn. This is the best conclusion to a duology that I’ve ever read. Everything just falls into place and oh damn. OH DAMN. But okay, I more »

Book Review: Six of Crows

I make it no secret that I love this author. I love the Shadow and Bone series. I love the Twitter feed from Bardugo. I love her backstory. I love the world she just creates via magic. I was honestly a bit worried when I saw a new series coming out. How can you even top the Shadow and Bone series? How can you follow up a series so dear to my heart? I had no idea that this book was set in the same Grisha universe until a review for an ARC came out. My worry quickly morphed into excitement. I more »

Book Review: Six of Crows

You never know what kind of story you’re going to get from Leigh Bardugo, but the one thing you do know is that it will be fantastic. I’ve never given one of her books less than 4 stars, and though I have yet to read Ruin and Rising (this is because I know the ending will disappoint me), I loved the first two books of that trilogy as well. Six of Crows is no different. In fact, I think it might be BETTER than The Grisha Trilogy. Why, you ask? Because the characters, that’s why. I liked them A LOT more »

Book Review: Shadow and Bone

I’d been curious about Shadow & Bone for some time, actually having it on my shelf for over a year due to my curiosity and buying it after hearing so many reviews. Some good, some bad. The mixture of thoughts came from my variety of reader friends. Unfortunately, I also heard a few spoilers to the characters (and there might be some mild spoilers below if you have not read this book and don’t know absolutely anything about it from reviews/fans), and that may have been why I didn’t pick it up immediately upon purchasing. It’s hard to want to more »

Book Review: Ruin and Rising

I can’t believe this series is over.  This quickly became a book series that helped set my standards for reading expectations. I noticed that I have rated all three books as 4 stars, across the board.  I know this sounds horrible, but OH how these books always hurt me! It was always the pain that kept me just one step away from calling it all perfect. But that doesn’t mean I don’t love this series any less. It isn’t fitting to talk about the last book without touching base on the previous books.  It is a fitting send off to more »

Book Review: Siege and Storm by Leigh Bardugo

WOW.  Do not be fooled by the sorta-low rating – I really enjoyed Siege and Storm.  It was a ton of fun to read.  The characters, particularly Alina, are much more interesting.  And the plot was engaging and, for the most part, fast paced.  It wasn’t without its problems, particularly in the romance area, but I’m so happy I decided to continue on with this series. I was decidedly NOT a fan of Shadow and Bone.  I didn’t like the way the one “Asian” character was treated so stereotypically.  I really hated Alina.  And I thought the book as a more »
