First things first, I have NOT read The Martian. It’s on my very large list of books to read, but I haven’t had the chance to get to it yet, and now after reading Artemis, let me just say I’m not going to be in a hurry. I know, I know, so many love it, but I absolutely hated the voice in this novel, and I’ve read several reviews that state it’s very similar to the voice in The Martian (and works better there), and I just don’t want to go through that again anytime soon. I need to give three cheers for Anya at On Starships and Dragonwings – her review sold me on this book. No lie. I didn’t even know this book existed until she reviewed it. I actually bought it for my sister, since she is the space geek. She enjoyed it, and told me that it was at least fun to read. A short time later, this book began to populate Book World Online.
