Book Review: The Darkest Minds

HOOOLY CRAP, I lovelovelovelove this book. Okay, that’s it, this is my new favorite fantasy series for this year HAHAH I mean, guys, it’s reaaaally good. If you have not read it, you need to do it NOW. Though, I do have to admit that this book has certain aspects that are similar to the Shatter Me trilogy, but trust me, it’s still pretty amazing. I love that The Darkest Minds started off with the backstory of this whole plot. Like, I actually dived into the book understanding how or why some things were happening. Unfortunately, the only thing that was confusing more »

Book Review: Passenger

Passenger – oh how I was looking forward to this book since it was announced. Bracken’s The Darkest Minds series (okay, well, the first book) was a novel I never expected to enjoy. The writing was great and I loved the characters.  Certainly lighting can strike twice, right? But where I expected Pirates of the Caribbean, I got….Dead Man’s Chest. Passenger was a ride that I was ready to get off way before the ride was over. Etta’s character seemed all over the place. Remember that episode where Captain Hook’s dearest ship was cursed in a bottle? YEAH. So yes, I picked up the book because of it. BUT also because of the time-travelling factor. I’ve always loooove time-travelling, whether it’s to the past or the future. I was really looking forward to this book, and trust me, I was beyond frantic when I realized that it’s been a week after the more »

Book Review: The Darkest Minds

The dystopia genre is back in the game (or, it was, like 2 years ago)! When I picked up The Darkest Minds, I felt some hostility at first. This came from the era when dystopian novels dominated the field, no matter the quality of the work. Every publisher was scrambling to ride the coattails of The Hunger Games. Fortunately, The Darkest Minds brings a solid, well-rounded dystopian story and a wonderfully dark novel regarding the true nature of the world. Packed with wonderful characters, well-paced action and an ending that makes you die a bit inside, there was very little I more »

Book Review: The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

For a while, I kind of cut back on the amount of dystopias I was reading.  It seemed like every single book coming out what a dystopia, and the first of a trilogy.  The Darkest Minds fits that description, and it came out right at the peak of the trend.  So, yes, I was excited I won a copy, but I put it off for a long time because I was just so burnt out by the genre. I’m really glad I picked this book up when I did though.  I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump lately, more »
