I edit because I’m full of passion for this business and I love critiquing and being detail-oriented. I love problem solving, and I love the idea of helping you and your MS be the best they can be. I majored in Secondary Education with a focus in English at Wayne State University, but most of my experience I have obtained through reading, blogging, and observing the world around me. I have been editing and working with authors since July of 2011. I’m an analytical thinker and I’m great at noticing things that others don’t always catch. Grammar has always come easy to me and certain things just stand out to me in manuscripts. I’m great at content editing because I study human behavior on a regular basis. I know how your characters should be acting and speaking if you want them to be realistic. I have an eagle-eye for plot holes. If something doesn’t make sense, I will find it for you. Do you repeat words? Does your prose have flow issues? I have a great ear for that also.
My pledge to you:
I promise to treat your MS as if it were my own. I will take my time and do everything I can to make it stand out and shine. If there is something you want done, and it is not listed here, we can discuss it and see if I can do it. If I don’t feel we are a good match for any reason, I will not take on the job because I cannot give it 100%.
You may send me a sample (first chapter) that I will critique/edit for you for free. This helps both of us decide if we are a good match for each other. You get to see how I work, and I get to decide if I can help you.
As always, if you have any questions, I am always here to answer them. My email is Survivorluvr33@gmail.com. I am here to help you.
Here is what I can do for you:
Do you just want a proofreader/copy-editor? Has your MS already been read by beta-readers? Are you just looking for someone to find typos, grammatical errors, technical, and sentence structure issues?Or would you prefer something a little more detailed? Did you want someone to evaluate your characterizations, pacing, world-building, plot holes, etc. Is your dialogue believable? Would someone actually say that? Are there words that are overused? Do you still want your grammar and structural issues checked?
My prices range from $1.50-2.75 a page depending on level and intensity of work needed:
- Proofreading: $1.50 per 250 words
- Copyediting: $1.75-2.25 per 250 words
- Substantive (Content) Editing: $2.25-2.75 per 250 words
How I determine pricing: I’ll have you send me a small sample of your work. I will then read through it and quote you a price based on your needs and my guidelines above.
Payment is preferred through Paypal, but I will accept personal check as a last resort.
Price includes one full edit (read through) of your manuscript. Then it is sent back to you for revisions. I am happy to stay in contact with you via email if you have any questions about the edits I have made. Any additional edits you may need are an additional $1.00 a page.
If you are looking for a type of edit that is not listed here, e-mail me and we can discuss it. I am flexible and willing to work with you.
I charge a non-refundable $60.00 to hold your editing spot. If you cancel on me after we book a certain date, that will not be returned to you. I will subtract that amount from the final total of what you owe me for the edit if you do keep the date you have booked.
If you’re the kind of writer who wants an editor to hold your hand and gently lead you down the path of edits, Kara is not that editor. She will take your book, rip it apart, make it bleed and you’ll thank her for it because you know what? She makes your book better. Often when I’m writing I hear her voice in my head, and I check myself before I make one of my usual mistakes. I know I’m a better writer for having worked with her.
Chelsea M. Cameron New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author
Since she’s a book reviewer and extremely well-read, I had a feeling that Kara would be the right fit for my work. I knew she could she handle the structural aspect of writing, but her being a book reviewer led me to believe she would be the perfect editor to review my manuscript from a reader’s point of view. I was right.
Kara’s ability to spot pacing issues, character inconsistencies, and overall story arc impressions was spot on. Her capture of my word usage was perfect, finding overused words I had no idea existed within my manuscripts. She evened out my sentence structure, corrected grammar flaws, and worked with me to make sure each chapter ended better than last, forcing the reader to turn the next page. By the time Kara was done with my book, my characters had become more lifelike, emotions splattered across the pages like never before, and I fell back in love with the story I began to tell.
I was impressed by how swiftly Kara met our deadlines. She kept in touch throughout the project, and was always open to answering my barrage of questions. It’s safe to assume that Kara will be working on all my projects for the foreseeable future. That is, if she’ll have me.
M.R. Merrick, Author of The Protector Series
I’ve been working with Kara for a couple of years now, and not only is she a great editor, but she’s also one of my favorite people. When I send my work to Kara, I have no doubt that it’s in great hands. She always manages to pick up on exactly what my manuscript needs to really make it shine–whether that’s word choice, pacing, plot, or helping me cut down the number of times my characters furrow their brows (which is apparently a lot!). She’s attentive and follows up with me in a timely fashion, and I can tell that she cares about my book as much as I do. Needless to say, she will be seeing all of my future projects, and when I get the chance I always refer my friends to her. Thanks for doing such an awesome job, Kara!
Jadah McCoy, Author of Culling
It didn’t take me long to realize what a jewel I’d found in Kara. She was tough and thorough which was exactly what I was looking for. Her comments and keen eye were just what my manuscripts needed. She not only corrected the grammatical errors, but also helped me see where I could improve my story with her honest opinions regarding plot and pacing. In my opinion no one does a better job, and I plan to use her for all my editing needs.
