Forgotten Fridays: Second Chance Summer

Last month Lyn picked Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson, and together with Kara and Maryam, reviewed this sweet summer read. We had some delays, but we finally made it!  (Also, please remember that discussions sometimes lead to spoilers. While we try very hard to stay away from them, it still happens from time to time. If you haven’t read this book, be aware of potential spoilers during the discussion posts. You can’t say we didn’t warn you!) Lyn: So, was this a good pick for everyone this time around?   Kara: Yeah. I really, really loved this book to pieces. more »

Book Review: Blackhearts

A BLACKBEARD’S STORY? ACK. Okay, honestly, I had a hard time reading this book, because I’ve always pictured Blackbeard as that old, grumpy pirate HAHA. BUT I really do enjoy this book, despite the fact that I thought it would be 100% pirate-ish stuffs. I mean, the story started out slow the first few pages, especially with all the aristocrats and barons talk. I have to admit that they always bore me, but Blackhearts still managed to hold my attention, why? Hellooooo there, Teach. YAS, Edward “Teach” Drummond stole my heart away the first time he was introduced. The fact that he more »

Thank you to all of the bloggers and readers who chimed in over the past two weeks to help raise us up and bring forward some of the better qualities of the blog sphere. We all take a lot of abuse and judgement quietly, and we stick together. Book blogging is the longest I have ever stuck with any hobby, and I think it’s because of how much I love to read and the more »

The movie had just released, and I thought it would be a great time to read this buzzed novel. I thought it was best to just go in blindly and not set any expectations. I knew that the book had quite a bit of sex (not a problem), but other than that, it was going in blind. Even though I didn’t set myself up with any expectations, I certainly wasn’t prepared to dislike this novel as much as I do. There were some more »

Blog Tour: The 3rd Woman

I am glad I joined the tour for The 3rd Woman. The premise of the book totally intrigued me.  How was this even going to work? This book had the potential to go very, very badly. I really enjoyed this one, but I had a few issues, and they are totally not what you are probably thinking. Length-The book is simply too long for a thriller. Pacing is a bit slow and there is so much exposition and conversation that feels repetitive and makes the book boring in places. Themes-I always get uncomfortable when a man writes a book like more »
