Top Ten Tuesdays

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s topic: Book Adaptations We STILL Need to See

Even though the general consensus is the following:

We still have the adaptations, inspirations, script fodder and general novel-inspired entertainment that keeps us coming back for more.

This week, Kara and Pixie discuss what adaptations are still on their lists.

The Great Gatsby

I still haven’t seen this. I want to, and yet, it’s hard to work up the motivation because it’s one of my favorite books, AND, I know how it ends. The soundtrack is fantastic and I listen to it a lot, but I still haven’t seen the movie. Hopefully soon?

Eat, Pray, Love

So, I am almost positive the movie has to be better than the book. It’s pretentious and privileged, but I loved reading about the travel anyway. I would imagine that Julia Roberts makes the film passable, and even enjoyable, to watch. I’m really looking forward to the scenes filmed in Indonesia.

Divergent

I know. I call myself a YA fan and I have yet to see Divergent? Well, here’s a secret. I have yet to finish the book series as well because I know how it ends. This is probably the one I am going to watch next. While everyone else has moved on from dystopias, I still love them.

The Road

The only reason I haven’t seen this is because of its brutality. I know there’s cannibalism, and I have not yet prepared myself for that. In fact, I don’t know if I will EVER be prepared for that. I still want to see it though, because I love post-apocalyptic films and movies to pieces.

World War Z

I still haven’t read this book either. I’ve heard they are completely different from each other, and so should not be compared. I love zombie books, but zombie films are a tough watch for me. Same with The Walking Dead. Like I love the show, but it’s SOOOOO gory. And when I read zombie books, my head creates the gore so I can have as much or as little as I like. I think I can handle two hours of it though.

Pixie’s Book to Movie Adaptations She Still Has To See/ Is Excited to See

Okay, so my list mostly consists of upcoming movies. Haha. I watch a lot of movies. It’s one of my favorite things to do so I have seen many of the released/recently released ones that I tried thinking of anyway.

Mockingjay Part Two (Obviously!) –

I can’t wait! To be honest, I was slightly bored by the first part, but I’m so excited by the second. It’s going to be jammed packed with action… and my purse will be jammed packed with tissues because if you’ve read the book, you know what we’re going to be going through.

The Scorch Trials –

I haven’t even read these books but I need to. OMG I need to. I only just saw The Maze Runner right before this movie released in theaters (a couple of months ago, I believe)? and I instantly fell in love with it. I unfortunately didn’t get around to the theater to see TST though and now waiting for it to release so I can rent. On the edge of my seat waiting though. 🙂

Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them –

Seriously though, who isn’t excited for this new Potter-world film??? Yes yes, I know it’s not quite a book adaptation, but it’s sort of one in a way, a film based off a film based off of a book. If that makes any sense. Lol. I keep looking at all the set photos though and they look gorgeous and awesome!

The 5th Wave –

I have not read the book yet, though I have been told numerous times to do so, but I saw the movie trailer recently and it looks AMAZEBALLS. Book has moved to the top of the pile so I can read it before I see it.

Miss Peregrine’s Home For Peculiar Children –

This series is fantastic and I really look forward to seeing what Tim Burton does with it.

Sorry that I didn’t have time to add pictures in with my part of the post this week. I got home late from a basketball game. LOL.

P.S. Kara, you really really really must watch The Great Gatsby. I’ve watched it so many times. It’s one of my fave books too and I’m serious… They did so great with that adaptation! Also I’m not a huge fan of the Divergent book series (I did love the first book though), but both movies so far have been surprisingly excellent! A great cast pulls it together so well. Better than the books, imo. Lol.

  1. I want to see The Great Gatsby too!

I watched Eat, Pray Love and it was still pretentious and so, so privileged and it was kind of grating, really? But I hope you like it. 🙂

So called YA Fans unite! I haven’t seen Divergent either. Mostly because I haven’t read the book and a small part because I heard Insurgent was awful and I’m just not trying to waste my time like that. Sorry Shailene.

The Road sounds scary if there’s cannibalism.

I always thought World War Z was about some dystopian society and was kind of disappointed when I found out it was zombies.
