I don’t know if you guys know this, but The Lunar Chronicles is one of my faaaaaaaavorite series. Seriously, if you haven’t started this series yet, you don’t know what you’re missing. You can see for yourself all the awesomeness on their blog and you should definitely be following Marissa Meyer on twitter.  And don’t forget to pre-order Fairest, which comes out on the 27th of this month!

Fan Casting the Lunar Chronicles

In this stunning bridge book between Cress and Winter in the bestselling Lunar Chronicles, Queen Levana’s story is finally told.

Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Who is the fairest of them all?

Fans of the Lunar Chronicles know Queen Levana as a ruler who uses her “glamour” to gain power. But long before she crossed paths with Cinder, Scarlet, and Cress, Levana lived a very different story – a story that has never been told . . . until now.

Marissa Meyer spins yet another unforgettable tale about love and war, deceit and death. This extraordinary book includes full-color art and an excerpt from Winter, the next book in the Lunar Chronicles series.

These books have something to offer everyone, in my opinion. They’re fast-paced and romantic and thrilling and cinematic. And the way Marissa Meyer writes, I can vividly imagine this world and these characters as if they’re right there in front of me. I’ve been wishing for a novella about the villain, Queen Levana, for a while now, and all my wishing has been rewarded with a full-length novel, Fairest! So I’m thinking that maybe if I put some more of that wishing out into the universe, maybe we’ll get Lunar Chronicles movies! And I’ve already picked out the perfect cast.

Cinder

Cinder

So I might have cheated a little bit with this pick, as Marissa herself has said that Shay Mitchell would be the perfect pick to play Cinder. I have to say I agree. I can see Mitchell playing that girl with the tough, bad ass exterior who is hiding a deeply vulnerable side.

Prince Kai

Kai

Let’s all just take a deep breath.

Better? Okay. Aarif Rahman is not only drop dead gorgeous, he is exactly how I pictured Kai when I was reading. Do you need some more proof? Look at this (hat tip to Renae from Respiring Thoughts for bringing Aarif to my attention!):

Kai2

Now excuse me while I go watch his entire body of work (ooer.)

Scarlet

Scarlet

I was scouring the internet for the perfect red-haired actress when I remembered Sibyl Vane from Dorian Gray and thought YES Rachel Hurd-Wood would be perfect as Scarlet! In my mind I see Scarlet as this spunky girl who is quick to laugh and quicker to pull her gun on you. Rachel Hurd-Wood has that look, I think.

Wolf

Wolf

I know I talked a LOT of crap when Theo James played Four in Divergent because of how old he looks (he really does look old) but I cannot deny his hotness and the fact that he is exactly how I imagined Wolf as soon as he was introduced. Plus, I think he has the chops to pull off Wolf’s vulnerability, especially when Scarlet is around.

Cress

Cress

CRESS. MY FAVE. Okay. Emily Kinney would be the perfect Cress because she was the perfect Beth Greene and they are very similar characters. Cress is this sort-of naive girl who is a hopeless romantic and optimist but she is also extremely smart and clever. Emily Kinney can be all of those things and more. Plus, the hair.

Thorne

Thorne

I was going back and forth on who to pick for Thorne because I know he is v v important to a lot of you (me too.) Ultimately, I thought Chace Crawford was just hot enough to pull it off and if we could all erase his Nateness from our minds and get a clean start, he’d be a great Thorne.

  1. I love Rachel Hurd-Wood and Theo James as Scarlet and Wolf!! These books would make seriously awesome movies. *fingers crossed* that happens someday. 😀

Gosh… Queen Levana?? Every time I think of an evil queen, I always think of Regina from Once Upon a Time. I think Angelina Jolie would do an evil queen fairly well too.

Ooooo I don’t know who I would pick to play Levana, I feel like she would be a difficult casting to get perfect…Chace Crawford is PERFECT for Thorne though!!!

  3. Michelle Lee

My favorite fairy tale retelling is Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty! Thank you for this amazing chance! I’m looking forward to Fairest! 🙂

  4. Krysten M

Oh man, I think I would pick Charlize Theron to play Levana (mostly because of her performance in Snow White and the Huntsman, seriously wicked) 🙂

    • Danielle D

I was going to say the same thing! Charlize Theron was so perfectly evil (and beautiful!!) in Snow White and the Huntsman. She’d make a great Levana.

  5. Mary G Loki

I had always envisioned Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada to be Levana! Both are elegant and scary mean!

  6. Katiria Rodriguez

Great choice of cast I so do agree with you of Theo cast as Wolf I think he would be a perfect pick and I have to agree I so picture Uma Thurman as Queen Levana. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!

  7. Chelsea B.

Your casting was PERFECT! *Insert eye hearts smiley here*
    Oh, goodness, hmmmm…
I think Charlize Theron would be PERFECT! She’s gorgeous, and does evil QUITE well! Loved her in Snow White and the Huntsman!

I don’t really know of anyone to play Queen Levana but Angelina Jolie would do an okay job. Thanks for the giveaway!:)

I have been meaning to read this series forever and every time a new book in the series comes out, I kick myself telling myself that I need to get on it! Everyone says that it’s amazing and I absolutely adore anything that has to do with fairytales, so I don’t know why it’s taken me this long, but I’m believing that this is my time! As of now, my favorite retelling is Of Beast & Beauty by Stacey Jay. I love how she intertwined the characters so there was not just one character to call the beauty and one to call the beast.

I have not read this series yet, but I certainly will!!!!! I love fairy-tale re-telling (as embarrassing as it is to admit, as I am a guy). My personal favorite has to be Alex Flinn and her books from Beastly, which was the ultimate captivator for me, to her most recent one, Towering. Flinn puts the princesses in the 21st century, and magically intertwines several other fairy tales/fables seamlessly into one novel. I LOVE IT!!!!!!

  11. The first person who crossed my mind to play Queen Levana would be Angelina Jolie. I love the shape and contouring of her face, not to mention she is gorgeous! I love the cast that you picked — you seriously hit the nail on the head. If they ever do make a movie out of the Lunar Chronicles and this cast is not picked I will be severely disappointed ha ha!

I haven’t read many fairy tale retellings unfortunately (I really need to fix this!), so my favorite is actually the tv show Once Upon a Time

  13. kt

I have actually read the series, but I am terrible at actors/actresses so I have NO idea who would be a good Levana. My favorite fairy tale re-telling is either Beauty by Robin McKinley or Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

  14. Danielle D.

I’d probably choose Charlize Theron as Queen Levana. I know she played in Snow White and the Huntsman, but she pulls off cold and beautiful so well!

  15. Liat

I didn’t read the Lunar Chronicles yet, but these books are definitely on my TBR list! my favorite retellings are probably those by Juliet Marillier (Wildwood Dancing, Heart’s Blood, Daughter of the Forest). And I also have a soft spot for Goose Girl and The Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale.
So, as I said, I didn’t read the books yet, but from the other comments I sort of get the typecast, and if queen Levana should be played by a cold, beautiful woman, I have a thing for Eva Green. Maybe it could work? 🙂

  16. Natasha

I haven’t read the Lunar Chronicles yet.
One of my favorite retellings ins Sisters Red by Jackson Pearce.
Thanks for the chance to win!

  17. Patricia Lopez

I haven’t had the chance to read the series, but I am dying to read them all. My favorite fairy tale retelling are the Beau Rivage series by Sarah Cross, specially Kill Me Softly. 🙂

  18. Kristina

I don’t know anyone that would make a great Queen Levana, but maybe I would imagine her as Naomi Watts. I don’t know. I can’t wait to begin reading this book, so excited.

  19. Courtney W

I haven’t started the series yet (since the last book isn’t out) but my favorite retelling is Entwined by Heather Dixon. It’s a retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses 🙂 🙂

  20. Everyone are going to kill me if I say that queen Levana is definitely my favourite character 😀 ( And not only because the evil queen is my favourite disney character since I was a child ! )
I mean, I love her temper and her character, she’s so fucking perfect it’s so frustratring :D. She’s the character the most interresting and the most mysterious with her veil .
I can’t wait for read the story of the fairest of them a…oh I mean of the galaxy 😀 . And I think the perfect cast for her will be hum… Gal Gadot (Maybe…) <3 Long live the queen <3

Ps: I'm sorry for the spelling mistakes, my english is very bad :/
