Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at The Broke and the Bookish
This week’s topic: Top Ten Goals for 2015

Time to ring in the new year – out with the old and in with the new!

Ready or not, 2015 is peeking around the corner, and like every good little blogger under the sun, so many of us are already planning what we’re going to promise and forget for the upcoming 365 days. New year, new us, new resolutions to shatter and ignore!

This week, Bekka and I will discuss what we wish to improve for the upcoming year for our top ten bookish/blog-related New Year’s Resolutions!

Lyn’s Goals

I can’t even really explain why this is happening to me, what is causing it, and what will help solve this particular dilemma in my blog life. I’m in a horrible, nasty slump, and I can’t seem to find the end of this rabbit hole. I’m crossing my fingers and hoping above all that it is just general fatigue, and the start of 2015 will bring some peace and calm required to focus on some issues I am tackling at the moment.

Third year is a charm, right? RIGHT?! Every time I think about picking up a classic, I always say, “Oh, look at this beautiful new release! It needs my love NOW.” The rest is history. I’m going to start with a low, low, low number and claim to read at least 5 this year. At least.

*eyeballs the horrible, nasty pile*

*eyeballs horrible, nasty Netgalley rate*

*eyeballs horrible, nasty back log on the Kindle*

Currently, I am 12 reviews behind. 12. If I double up, that is a month’s worth of reviews that I refuse to write. Time to clean up my review debt and get it over with, and start nabbing some weekend spots for myself to start the first of the year with a clean slate.

Bekka’s Goals

I don’t know what was up with me this year, but I was just in a year-long slump basically. I know the new year is just another day but I’m hoping I can psyche myself into getting a head start and starting fresh on my reading.

It was overwhelming when we were doing two books per month (most likely due to that aforementioned slump) but now that we’re doing Forgotten Fridays just once per month, I’m hoping to participate my ass off.

There are a ton of signings in Asheville and I’d really like to get to more. That means some great giveaways, gifts for friends, and meeting more awesome authors.

I AM SO BAD WITH THIS. 2015 is the year to remedy my series problem.

Find balance in my reading – as far as reading things I know I’ll love and balancing that with riskier, out of my comfort zone choices.
Finding balance between real life and blogging – I felt like I worked my ass off in 2014 and I’d like to dedicate a little more time to my real life relationships and endeavors.
Find balance between reading and writing – I’d like to make writing a regular habit and not just something I do in November, but I always feel like I need to be reading reading reading all the time for the blog.
Find balance between new releases and rereads – I used to love rereading so I’d like to do more of that again next year.

What are your own bookish goals? Are your reading habits going to change in 2015? Will you make some much-needed improvements to your blog?

Lynn, your five resolutions are basically half of mine! I’m still rolling around on the floor laughing at the thought of not buying books but have come up with a reward system for when I donate books to help with that one. I want to read more classics in 2015 as well, I managed a reread of a couple this year but that was it. Good luck with them, looking forward to seeing how you do 🙂

    • I am about to do a major clean sweep of my books. I can’t just keep piling them on the floor and fooling myself that i will get to every damn book I own. But the new releases come out and then I’m still screwed.

That is a great idea, about donating. I might donate my new releases. The library will surely need those books.

Thank you, Fi, and I hope you meet your own goals as well!!

    • I am so horrible about buying books. I always find discounted books, so I allow myself to think that it is balanced since I am getting such a deal.

Meh, I’m losing floor space at a horrible rate!

    • I am afraid I am going to fail at that goal every year, but I am becoming pretty picky about what I buy in physical form and what I buy in ebook form. That will help with space, at least.

  2. Blogging funks all around it seems. We will all dump the slump, because of the good friends we have around us and the pretty books. DNFing has been helping me, as has a new reading system, and also finishing up a project that was wearing me down. I’m hoping it’s mostly shaken and I can go into 2015 fresh.

Trololol, I’m going to buy more books probably, since I’m doing more backlist reading.

I used to read so many classics and I don’t anymore. Hopefully I’ll ease back into it with a couple this year.

Bekka, you’ll look pretty funny without an ass. (Yes, I am five. What is your point?)

BALANCE IS SO HARD. I don’t think I’ll ever find it, but I’m choosing to be optimistic and dream.

    • Christina!!! *dance dance dance*

I have no idea why the slump hit me so hard starting in October. I believe that real life stress was starting to get to me, and when I stress, I start getting very anti-social. I was given an early promotion at work, starting in October, and it really interfered with my reading enjoyment. Now I seem ready to jump right back in.

I’m totally buying books this year. Way too many awesome 2015 releases. But I do want to stop just BUYING out of comfort. When I get upset, I retail shop, and books are my first target.

I suppose I should look for a challenge or a reading exchange that only deals with classic books.

      Happy 2015 to you, Christina!!
