stacking the shelves

I had such a good week this week!  We got our press passes for BEA, which was awesome. It also meant that I could finally buy my tickets to New York and some new clothes for the trip. Also, I’m in the middle of reading two really awesome books, which will also do good things for my mood.  Finally, I got a few approvals on Edelweiss and NetGalley, and bought one novella that I’m excited about.

For Review
The Girl from the Well by Rin Chupeco
Bleed Like Me by C Desir
The Supernatural Enhancements by Edgar Cantero
Don’t Touch by Rachel Wilson
Bought
Gilded Ashes by Rosamund Hodge

I FOUND A NEW JOB!!

I certainly cannot even begin to express my most sincere emotions. Oh, wait – gifs!

I can say that I feel a shift internally in my state of mind and how the feeling of freedom is causing me to become intoxicated with happy hormones. In the first time in 2 years, I finally finally FINALLY feel the weight of failure and pressure off of me.

I feel ALIVE. I feel FREE!

On the weather front – survived my first tornado encounter of 2014. Many more will come, I assure you. I also promise my favorite thing about Texas: The annual bluebonnet invasion!

So with all of that sappy, dippy stuff out of the way, here is the book haul for three (??!) weeks. With the Amazon settlement, some holiday coupons and some used shopping love, I have an impressive collection to brag over.

Books

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Collection Vol 1 by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird – Because SCREW the movie!
A Love Like Blood by Marcus Sedgwick – Bought it from the UK. No regrets. Love the author.
The Map of the Sky by Felix J. Palma – Might be a trap, but the cover was tempting, and the description sounded enticing.
Boxers and Saint box set by Gene Luen Yang – I almost feel guilty for scoring this with a nifty half off coupon. Kara’s review convinced me to buy it, and I liked American Born Chinese.
Keeper by Kathi Appelt – one of my favorite top ten novels. I borrowed a copy from the library, and it is time for a reread.
Thor’s Wedding Day by Bruce Coville – Too tempting not to own it. It is my favorite Norse story, and the author is well-known as well.
The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski – I won this on Christina’s blog, A Reader of Fiction, in a comment raffle. SUPER excited to read this one!
Golden by Jessi Kirby – FINALLY found this one used! Yah!
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Vol 3 – I am collecting the entire KH manga set, and I bought this one first because Axel is my favorite male video game character.
Allegiant by Veronica Roth – found it used. I might as well finish this series.
Butterflies by Susanne Gervay – I found this one while browsing. Sounds very interesting.
Girl of Nightmares by Kendare Blake – I have already read it, but I had to own it because of the cover.
Kindle

Zenn Scarlett by Christian Scoon – I know the reviews on this one tend to be lukewarm, but I admit I am dying of curiosity.
Insanity by Jace Cameron – THE COVER. Had to own it. Just had to.

  1. Congrats on the new job, Lyn! Your pile of books has such bright covers/spines, and they go along so well, which I thought for some reason I know not. 😉

I’m so looking forward to a review of Bleed Like Me, Bekka. Not to mention the envy I feel!

  2. Congrats on the new job, that is fab news! Great haul of books, so glad you got A Love Like Blood and can’t wait to hear what you think of it! Map of the World is pretty good, have you read the first book, Map of Time? I don’t think you need to if you haven’t but characters from the first book (including Edgar Allan Poe!) are in the second!

Enjoy your new books and happy reading 🙂

    • Thank you! I’m going to try to bump up A Love like Blood on my reading list, since I lust Sedgwick’s writing.

I had no idea Map of the World was a sequel. I am so lucky I have you guys looking out for me. I’ll look for the first book before I read the second one.

  3. Already read and loved Gilded Ashes…hope you enjoy it, too, Bekka. And congrats on the job, Lyn! I live in North Texas, too, but the tornadoes were just a little farther north than where I’m located, thank goodness. And, yes, the bluebonnet explosion is one of my favorite things about living here…I can’t wait to get pics of my kiddo out there in the midst of them. 😀

    • Thank you, Jen! I’m always happy to see a fellow Texan! I saw the first field of bluebonnets next week, and I told myself that it was time to get out the camera.

  6. I’m really excited for The Girl From the Well! I’m hoping it’s just as creepy as I’m anticipating. Supernatural Enhancements sounds very interesting, I’ll be keeping an eye out for your thoughts!
Congratulations, Lyn! After 2 years, that’s definitely gotta be an awesome feeling. I’m really looking forward to A Love Like Blood… I may have to check out UK prices. 🙂
