top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted at The Broke and the Bookish.
This week’s theme: All Time Favorite Books in the Sci-Fi Genre.
I’m out of cute words and lame antics for the masses. A surprise URI has left my brain feeling mushy. How about a gif?

….another open-ended TTT! Kara and I picked Sci-Fi (leaning towards dystopia) choices for this week’s topic! Enjoy!
Kara’s Picks:
Fuse by Julianna Baggott
Insignia by S.J. Kincaid
Fragments by Dan Wells
These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner
The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken

I know almost all of my picks are dystopian novels, but that is a form of Sci Fi and so far, they have been my favorites. Now that I am reading more deeply into the genre though, I expect that to change. Tin Star was a straight Sci-Fi novel that I read recently and very much enjoyed, but there were some things lacking for me. I do hope I am able to fine more like it as I am REALLY starting to love science fiction.

Lyn’s Picks

Angelfall by Susan Ee
Catching Fire by Suzanne Colins
Pivot Point by Kasie West
Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis
Stormdancer by Jay Kristoff
What is on your own list this week?

  1. Oh Hell YEA!!! My favorite genre is fantasy and 2nd to that is sci-fi, so I’m always game to see what books are out there that I can add to my TBR list!!! I’m so delighted to see Angelfall on your list! I love that series and can’t wait for Ee’s 3rd installment! Geez and all the other ones you named on here I have read but they’re all on my list already! This is a FABULOUS list guys!!
check out my TTT @ Book Hangovers Blabs Books

  2. I really like Sci-Fi, I need to get into reading more out of that genre this year since it’s kind of gone on the back burner but that will change hopefully soon! 🙂 Pivot Point and Darkest Minds are really high on my never ending TBR list!

    Taylor 🙂

  3. I am pretty embarrassed to admit that I have only read two of the books you girls listed. These Broken Stars, and Catching Fire. I did love them both though!! I have Pivot Point, Not A Drop To Drink, Angelfall, Fuse, and The Darkest Minds and hope to read them soon. Man, I totally suck. Lol!! I had Stormdancer, but had a hard time getting into it and gave it to another blogger who wanted it.

    • Not a Drop to Drink has a very small Sci-Fi element, but it’s there. I can’t wait to see what the author does with it in the sequel. I don’t blame you for not loving Stormdancer though. His writing is not for everyone.

  4. Have you read Earth Girl by Janet Edwards? That’s quite a good YA scifi. Not sure if you’re up for adult scifis, but Hyperion is also quite incredible 🙂
Is Stormdancer scifi? Isn’t it more of a high fantasy? Or steampunk/high fantasy/some-sort-of-weird-genre-fusion haha

    • NO! But I really want to. Yeah, I have to say that I think Stormdancer is more steampunk than Sci-Fi but I can see why someone would think it was. It’s kind of all over the place.

  5. *squee* that gif of Khan/Benedict dancing = ♥♥

God I adore sci-fi so of course, I instantly wanted to see your picks! And then I was shocked that the only one I’ve read (so far) out of all of your pics is Catching Fire :O *groan* …but…to be fair: I own a copy of both Angelfall and These Broken Stars. I just haven’t gotten around to them yet. Oh and Darkest Minds, Stormdancer and Not a Drop to Drink are all on my wishlist/tbr hehe Awesome picks ladies ^^ 😀
