Stacking the Shelves #73

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

Well, I had a really rough week and I’m glad as hell that it’s over.  My cats, Kitty and Gummy, went to get fixed this week so they were gone overnight.  It KILLED me, way more than I thought it would, to be away from them for even that little bit of time.  I couldn’t sleep and I couldn’t stop thinking of them. I’m so happy to have them back now, and I’m happy to say they’re perfectly fine.

Anyway, onto the books!  I had a really great week when it comes to book-acquiring.  I got a $5 coupon to Book Outlet so I ended buying three books and only paying for the shipping.  I also got some really exciting books for review.

Purchased
All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab
The River by Mary Jane Beaufrand
Every You, Every Me by David Levithan
The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin
Gifted
Black Helicopters by Blythe Woolston
For Review
The Truth About Alice by Jennifer Mathieu
The Summer I Wasn’t Me by Jessica Verdi
The Fever by Megan Abbott

On the blog this week:

On Sunday, Kara reviewed Pawn by Aimee Carter and gave it 4 stars. This is her favorite book of 2014 so far.

Then on Monday, Kara reviewed Evertrue to massive disappointment. Just an underwhelming finish to the trilogy.

For Top Ten Tuesday, Bekka and Lyn posted their Reading Wishlists

Wednesday, Bekka posted her 2013 reading stats with PIE CHARTS!

On Thursday, Bekka posted a review of Season of the Witch by Mariah Fredericks. A decent read overall with a lot of violence that was a bit tough to read.

We posted two reviews on Friday: Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama (Lyn really enjoyed it) and The Vanishing by Wendy Webb, which was a bit disappointing but the perfect choice if you want to escape.

Links We Love:

It’s the 88th edition of Cover Snark at A Reader of Fictions and we love it! Can you believe there have been that many?

Gillian at Writer of Wrongs writes about upcoming LGBTQ books in 2014. Great list!

Kat at Cuddlebuggery has a really entertaining post about crafting with books. ;)

Jamie at The Perpetual Page Turner likes talking to strangers about books and she wants to tell you why.

Betty at Book Rock Betty loves binge reading book series and she has some great picks for you!

My favorite post of the week goes to Giselle at Xpresso reads talking about the misunderstood 3- star rating. THIS POST. SO MUCH. Just because I rate something three stars doesn’t mean I don’t like it!

I saw that pic of Gummy and was worried something horrible had happened to her, so I’m actually really glad she just got spayed. Poor dear. We’ve always had male cats, so I didn’t realize the girls had to get all shaved like that. When Percy got neutered, they were like “don’t let him run around,” but of course the dumb cat wanted to jump and play. He was fine, though.

Oooh, I wonder if you’ll like Unbecoming. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, but I know most people hate it. Also, I am SO glad you loved The Truth About Alice. Really excited about that one now.

To answer your question, NO, I cannot believe there have been that many. I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

I remember my girlfriend’s house rabbit getting spayed. We were tragic about it for days because she wasn’t her usual self. Glad it went well for your kitties!

The David Levithan book interests me… *goes to look it up* I’ve read a few things by him, he always seems to pull it out of the hat for me, even when I don’t expect to like it.

    My post.

I’m glad your kitties are back home and in great shape, Bekka.

You’ve gotten some great books this week, I know I’ll be checking some of them out *sighs* I have no self-control when it comes to books.

Thanks for the links, too, I’ll be clicking around as I had missed some of those this week. Have a fantastic Sunday.
