stacking the shelves

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

So, so excited this week. I filmed a vlog, which is verrrrrry long and awkward as usual, but also, it’s a new year, and I am so happy to be a part of this blog. Bekka’s first official post is the haul she is posting below mine, and I think this new co-bloggership between the three of us is going to be AWESOME.

But books. I have a lot and they are presented in the vlog, but if you don’t have time to watch it, the links to the books are below the video.

So as you can see I am drowning in books.  I should probably put myself on a book-buying ban, but we all know how that works out.  Anyway, I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

On the blog this week:

Monday, I reviewed Lost Lake by Sarah Addison Allen and loved every minute of that book.

On Tuesday, Lyn and I listed our Top Ten Books we read in 2013.

Lyn looked back on her 2013 blogging/reading goals on Wednesday, and refuses to give herself a gold star.

And on Thursday, I reviewed Vicious by V.E. Schwab. I liked it a lot but missed an emotional connection to the character.

Finally, on Friday, Lyn and I welcomed our new co-blogger, Bekka, formerly from Pretty Deadly Reviews!

Links we love:

A discussion on swearing in YA novels at The Sirenic Codex.

A Brief Guide to Culling Your Books from Good Books and Good Wine.

This kick-ass bloggers at Cuddlebuggery pick their 2014 favorites in The Year of the Buggery. There’s a giveaway toooo.

Giselle at Xpresso Reads gets a new co-blogger, and it’s Jenni from Alluring Reads!

And another kick-ass discussion from The Sirenic Codex, this one about Diversity in YA.

See you next haul!

  1. Hi Bekka 😀 SO MANY BOOKS. I loooove that Harry Potter boxset. I need it for myself! I’ve also been wanting to get my hands on Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. I think I could scare my sister with them, mwahaha. I’ve put myself on a book buying ban as well. It’s going well… four days in.

    Kara:
I *need* to read Howl’s Moving Castle some time soon. Tatum, my coblogger, is likely to force it upon me. We watched the movie together and so the next step is to read the book, obviously. I’ve also been meaning to read Wintergirls for the longest time.

    • The Scary Stories books were my favorites as a kid. And then recently I heard they were being turned into movies, so OF COURSE I had to buy copies of my own to get a refresher. I hope they hold the same charm. 🙂

  2. So I had this page long comment all typed up where I talked about… hmmm…. how adorable MG covers are, and how Soy Sauce for Beginners is a really weird name for a book and your blog ate it so I am going to try to recreate as much of that as possible because I love you. Look at the effort I am putting in her!

Anywho, Yay for Bekka! I love how we did the exact same thing for the exact same reasons in the exact same week. Great minds think alike!

That Amazon Prime thing sounds really cool, I wonder if it’s the same on Amazon Canada, probably not.

I loved Ask the Passengers, Perfect Escape, and What Happens Next so I really hope that you do too. You stocked up on some of my favourite contemporary reads this week, love it!

    • Woo! I’m so excited for you! I think you and Giselle are going to be AWESOME together.

I also really, really loved Ask the Passengers. I hope Kara does, too, but I’m probably jinxing it since we often don’t agree..

  3. Bekka…. YOU GOT SO MANY BOOKS. I just want to O____________O Also anything written by Suzanne Young has to be good. At least that’s what I still believe so yeah. Go read the Program nowwwww! 😀

Also, Kara…. is it bad that I haven’t heard of any of these books? LOL. I shall have to go goodreads-ing
    EPIC Haul, ladies! <333

    • I’ve actually already read The Program 🙂 I LOVED it, so I knew I had to get myself a finished copy. But that never happened, so my husband stepped in and got it for me for Christmas! But since I loved it so much, I also asked for anything else written by her and he got me a copy of A Need So Beautiful. If it’s even half as good as The Program I’ll be happy!

  4. Ooo, a lovely vlog! I wish I had the time to make a vlog. If I did STS posts monthly, rather than weekly, perhaps I would. Anyway! I have The Program, but I have not read it yet! One of my bloggy friends loved it, so I know I’ll get to it eventually. I’ve been waiting to read Prodigy, but waiting because I wanted Champion to come out so I could binge-read. Of course, now Champion is out, and I still haven’t read both of those. Oops?! 😀

    Have an awesome weekend!

    Check out my STS post!

    • I LOVED The Program! I definitely recommend it if you’re in the mood for a tearjerker. I’m also terrible when it comes to the Legend series – I now own the first two books but haven’t read either of them yet!

  5. I loved The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight. I just bought her next book the other day, it was the kindle deal of the day. 🙂

I’m curious about Mind Games. I have read some of her Paranormalcy trilogy, and I like her writing, it’s cute and fun. I’ve been hesitant to get this one though because it seems like it’s a whole different ball game. Not sure how it will be.

  6. I say PSSSHHHHHHTTT to announcement of non gifting!! 😛 #Hairflip YAY for What Goes Around! I love Summers and both the books in that pack are awesome! I see a lot of new contemps, too, a lot of them I loved!! Contemporaries are IN!

Yay for a new co-blogger it’s the yer of coblogging it seems! I so want to buy that new HP pack with those new covers! I already have a box set but hey you can never get enough HP, right? 😀

    Great haul, ladies! <3

  7. I cannot wait to read S. It looks so interesting. I bought The Statistical Probability a couple of weeks ago and took it on vacation…but didn’t get to it.

Yay for the new co-blogger! Bekka, I’m so jealous of that HP book set. I’m dying to get my hands on that, but I just can’t justify the money when I already own all the books. Someday.

    Great haul, ladies!

  8. I am SO jealous that you have a copy of S.! I’ve been dying to get my hands on a copy. And the new Harry Potter set! So pretty. Great haul you guys!
