Stacking the Shelves #69

stacking the shelves

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

Hey, books! LEAVE ME ALONE. I thought I’d never say that, but after this week’s mail and all the ARC requests I have had to turn down, I cannot take one more book until I get caught up. The worst part is, I KNOW I have a package from Little, Brown coming on Monday (it was supposed to be here on Friday and I am shaking my fist at UPS.) This is what happens after you have been reviewing for a couple years, have established some solid publisher contacts, have no self control, and don’t read as fast as you used to. DON’T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU. For the record, I am determined to still catch up. I WILL catch up. A new year is coming and that is time to turn over a new leaf and read fast. But until then, I am an asshole. But not on purpose. NEVER on purpose.

Split Second by Kasie West.
I haven’t actually read book one. Harper does this sometimes. They send out a second in a series when you have not read the first. The good news is that Lyn HAS read the first and she loves it. So I am sending it to her for review. I know this series is awesome for so many. It’s just never interested me.
The Winner’s Curse by Marie Rutkoski
No joke, this is my third copy of this book. The first I got at BEA (and it’s this super special bound manuscript that I will keep forever), the second was an e-ARC that I requested because the print in the bound manuscript is HUGE, and then they send me a physical ARC in this amazing box with a sword bookmark. I will definitely read the physical ARC because that’s the format I prefer, but I wouldn’t have requested the e-galley if I knew this was coming.
Bite-Sized Magic by Kathryn Littlewood
Again, Harper. This is book three in a series I have not read yet. Thing is, I REALLY want to read Bliss. I always have, so I am going to hang onto this one and try to fit in a reading of these sometime this year. These covers are adorable and everything about this middle grade series sounds perfect.
On Such a Full Sea by Chang-rae Lee
Oh, MAN. I cannot wait to read this. I won this book from LibraryThing and it encompasses two things I love: Asian fiction and a dystopian society. Bring it ON.

Grim by Various Authors, edited by Christine Johnson

I didn’t even know about this one until this week but it sounded awesome so…

We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

One of my favorite contemporary authors, right here. How can I pass this one up?

The Secret Diamond Sisters by Michelle Madow

I don’t think I have read a YA series set in Vegas yet. This one sound like it could be Gossip Girl, Vegas style.

Such Sweet Sorrow by Jenny Trout

I have no idea what to think of this one, but I know I wanted to read it as soon as I heard about it. It could be epic and it could also go horribly wrong. Obvs, I hope it’s the first.

Thank you to Entangled Teen, HarlequinTEEN, Random House Children’s Publishing, Riverhead Books, HarperCollins, and Macmillan Children’s Publishing for EVERYTHING this week.

  1. Amy

Fabulous haul this week babe!!! I got Such Sweet Sorrow as well and it does sound really good!! Split Second sounds good, but like you, I haven’t read the first one yet. I got a pretty finished copy of Pivot Point back in April too. I totally fail. And OMG that packaging for The Winner’s Curse was so awesome right? I was like AHHHH I want everyone in the world to see this coolness!!

    • I sent it to Lyn and she is super excited about it, so at least it will get reviewed! Yes, the packaging was awesome. Unfortunately, I took the book out and couldn’t get the damn thing closed again and I was too lazy. 😀

  2. You are so lucky to get Winners Curse. I so am waiting for that one to be available on NG. I also got Such Sweet Sorrow and The Secret Diamond Sisters as well. Awesome haul darling.

  3. I’m so excited to read We Were Liars, which I recently downloaded onto my Kindle. I have a feeling it’s going to blow my mind. Also, I am so jealous you have THREE copies of Winner’s Curse! I’ve pre-ordered my copy and am really excited for it to release. Great haul, Kara! 🙂

  4. Congrats on getting On Such a Full Sea! I totally want to read that. And The Winners Curse looks so good. Great haul, good luck reading faster! I’ve tried and I just…can’t. Too many other things get in the way.

    My STS.

  5. I, too, am drowning in books. I think my review copy pile is over 45 books tall at this point. I literally cannot handle anymore!

I’ve been waiting for Grim for a while so I was realllllllly excited when it popped up on NG. Same thing with We Were Liars. EVERYONE has been going crazy about that one so now we get to see what all the excitement’s about!

  6. I hope you enjoy The Winner’s Curse. I liked it. It didn’t blow my mind but I quite liked it. I haven’t heard of the one written by Lee and it sounds interesting so I’ll be looking forward to your review on it. Also, Split Seconds yo. I’m jealous. Enjoy it!

  7. I am PUMPED for you to read WE WERE LIARS — seriously it is fantastic and I think you being a fan of books that are literary will LOVE IT OMG. Feel free to DM me your feels while reading it, I am there for you. <3

  8. How have you not read Pivot Point? HOW?! I was thinking about requesting The Secret Diamond Sisters, because I love Gossip Girl type things, but I have way too many books already. I need to get a grip and stop requesting ALL THE BOOKS.

    • LOL me too! I have not read Pivot Point because really, it just did not sound like my thing. I choose books based on their subjects and blurbs, and that one just did not speak to me. Lyn loves it though, so she will happily take Split Second off my hands.

  9. On Such a Full Sea is one I haven’t seen before. Sounds interesting too! Love the shot of the books under the tree, so pretty! Enjoy your new reads 🙂

  10. The fact that you have not read Pivot Point makes Christina sad. I did read Bliss last week, and it was really cute. Not sure if I’ll be able to sustain my interest through to Bite-Sized Magic, but we’ll see.

Ooooh, you know I am watching for that review of On Such a Full Sea. That sounds OFF THE HOOK.
