top ten tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a heme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic: Top Ten Character Top Ten Scariest Looking Book Covers.

I am a horror wimp. The Blair Witch Project made me cry. The Village made me cry (in more ways than one), The Exorcist made me cry. I refuse to see Signs because I do not want to cry.

I’m easy to scare.

So it was not hard to find covers that freaked me out. This weenie girl shares her top ten covers that make her want to (you guessed it) cry.

10. We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson
Read/Not Read: I have not read it, but I want this book.
Thoughts: The cover is creepy in a good way. The artwork draws a positive outlook on the story. I also love the title, as well.
Scare Factor: 5/10
9. The Replacements by Brenna Yovanoff
Read/Not Read: I’m on the fence about adding this to my reading list.
Thoughts: The cover is creepy, and I am scared for the baby inside. CPS, anyone?
Scare Factor: 5/10
8. Ashfall by Mike Mullin
Read/Not Read: Read it – loved it!
Thoughts: I really enjoy the entire spooky element. Great cover design.
Scare Factor: 6/10
7. The House of Dead Maids by Claire B. Dunkle
Read/Not Read: Not read.
Thoughts: What is it about the eyes? Eyeballs are just not my thing. Even when they are missing. Ick.
Scare Factor: 7/10
6. Twilight by Stephanie Meyer (UK Cover)
Read/Not Read: Read it – conflicting opinion about the book.
Thoughts: Freaky cover. I like the US cover more for this story. I will say, at least it is an interesting concept!
Scare Factor: 7/10

5. New Moon by Stephanie Meyer (UK Cover)
Read/Not Read: Read it – wasn’t a fan.
Thoughts: I wouldn’t have read the series if the covers looked like this, because it makes the series appear to be more horror-bound that paranormal. Like I said, I do like the concept.
Scare Factor: 7/10
4. Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick
Read/Not Read: Not read.
Thoughts: Oh Gods, I nearly wet myself when this cover popped up. The alien face thing makes my tummy hurt.
Scare Factor: 8/10
3. The Monk by Matthew Gregory Lewis
Read/Not Read: Not read.
Thoughts: Eyeballs are freaking creepy. That eye makes my stomach actually hurt. NEXT.
Scare Factor: 10/10
2. They Thirst by Robert R. McCammon
Read/Not Read: No, never.
Scare Factor: 10/10
1. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz
Read/Not Read: When I was young.
Thoughts: Nightmare material. This was a very popular series in my preteens, and the books scared me to no end. I still cannot look at the book without feeling the need to wet my pants and curl up into a ball.
Scare Factor: 99/10
