Stacking the Shelves #63

stacking the shelves

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

I had every intention of this being a slow book week. It started out that way. Really, it did. I got one book and I thought that was going to be it. But then I remembered I had a couple of things coming from friends. And then I got some books for review, one of which was a complete surprise. Then I got two e-galley approvals–I really should stop requesting those as I cannot keep up. But I have no willpower. It’s a character flaw. At any rate, I got 8 books this week. I need some serious help. I also got another shipment of candles and some Yerba Mate tea that I haven’t even cracked the package on yet.

Let’s just go to the books before it gets really ugly.

Blackout by Robison Wells
These were both gifted to me by the lovely Christina at A Reader of Fictions.
Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller (signed)
Ashleigh Paige from Birth of a New Witch picked this up for me when she went to the Trish Doller signing. I loved this book and now I have my own signed copy.
For Review:
Plus One by Elizabeth Fama
Thank you to Macmillan Children’s Publishing for these two lovelies.
Vicious by V.E. Schwab
Thank you to TOR for this gorgeous finished copy of Vicious. It was completely unexpected. I did request it way back when, but since I didn’t get an ARC, I had lost all hope. 🙂

The Violet Hour by Whitney A. Miller
Fates by Lanie Bross

Thank you to Flux and Random House Children’s Publishing for these two e-galleys.

Lyn’s Books

I agree with Kara – this was going to be a slow book week.  In fact, I bought a book on impulse just so I could tote a bookhaul this week.  Then, dear Christina from A Reader of Fiction professed her true love and sent me a box of ARCs from a Twitter giveaway. I also have a running gag with Kara via Twitter that we would post up everything we bought this week.

This week, I have goodies and books on display.

Frozen Big Golden Book by RH Disney – Friends, I am SO EXCITED about the new movie (which shows a heavy Scandinavian influences, since it is based on a Hans Christian Anderson story). The storyline is looking better and better, and I could not resist the merchandise.
Across a Star-Swept Sea by Diana Peterfreund – Gifted by Christina
Find Me by Romily Bernard – Gifted by Christina
Not a Drop to Drink by Mindy McGinnis – Gifted by Christina
3:59 by Gretchen McNeil – Gifted by Christina
The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey

Pokemon Y – New Pokemon released last week! The graphics are amazing, and I am getting sucked RIGHT back in! I saved a gift card from my friend for 5 months to buy this bad boy! Contact me if you wish to exchange DS friend codes!
Stuffed Cat from Petsmart – I LOVE stuffed animals.  I saw this when I was picking up cat food and fell in love with her. On top of that, a portion of the proceeds go to the animal rescue group.

  1. That was very nice of Christina to give you those books. Christina is so awesomely sweet. You guys got a nice haul. I think next week will be a slow week for me, so don’t feel bad.

    • I couldn’t resist when I found that a portion helps animals. Two good things in one!

I’m very excited to get to this book – I have so many I am reading at the moment!

  2. Great haul there ladies! Blackout was rather meh, I didn’t see much of a point of the book 😐 oh but Not A Drop To Drink! The MC is kickass and man, love the romance >.<

    Happy reading! <33

  3. Amy

You both have a fantastic haul!! I got Plus One this week also. It sounds so good!! I hope that you like Blackout. I ended up putting it aside to get back to. (hopefully) I still need to finish Not A Drop To Drink also. Man, I fail at blogging lately. I’m so behind. Hope you girls enjoy all the books and goodies!!

  4. I need to stop requesting e-galleys, too, but I just can’t. I get drawn in by those pretty covers. I’m reading Vicious right now and it is amazing. I love it. I really want to read 3:59. I have it checked out from the library, but haven’t been able to get to it yet. Great hauls this week!

  5. Ugh, I have the same problem. I request far more than I read which basically means I will always be behind. I hate being behind. You’d think that thought alone would be enough to keep me from requesting but nooooo.
I keep hearing about the fabulous-ness of Trish Doller but I have yet to read anything of hers! Think I may have to correct this. Looking forward to seeing what you think of Magic Marks the Spot; it was super cute. Ohhh The Snow Child. Oh how I love that book. 🙂 And that stuffed cat is ADORABLE. Happy Reading you two!

    • I hate is as well, and I am STILL further behind because Kara is an awesome friend!

The Snow Child looks like a GREAT December read. I am super excited!

  6. Someone needs to teach me the secrets of willpower, because I have none either. I just keep requesting the e-galleys x__x I manage to not request things from the publishers that send me emails, and then I just go crazy online when I don’t have to deal with people directly. GAH.

ANYWAY, Christina did good giving you Blackout! I loved that one. I also really liked Not a Drop to Drink. Little romance + surprising ending + brutal scenes = WIN. I’m soooo excited to read both Find Me and 3:59! I’m hoping to acquire them and fit them both in next month.
