Waiting on Wednesday (38): Death Becomes Books

Posted September 18, 2013 by Kara in Lyn, Waiting on Wednesday / 14 Comments

Welcome to this week’s Waiting on Wednesday. Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where we showcase upcoming releases we are looking forward to.

This week, Kara and I traded our usual meme assignments.  I am excited to share two books that are on my highly anticipated list.  My first book focuses on sci-fi with a twist of sick lit and death topics.  The cover is also creepy and slightly frightening. The second book is something that sounds different from everything else in the field – born again cancer victim, now turned monster? I’m on board!

Title: Of Breakable Things
Author: A. Lynden Rolland
Publisher: Month9Books
Release Date: April 2014

Description from Goodreads: Alex Ash was born broken. Living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome is like living on death row, but she is willing to fight for her diseased life as long as it includes the boy next door. Chase has always held the pieces of her together, but when he dies tragically, Alex’s unfavorable fate becomes a blessing in disguise. In a peculiar world where rooms can absorb emotions and secrets are buried six feet under, Alex discovers she is anything but frail. Even among limitless minds, envious spirits, and soulless banshees, the most difficult aspect of Alex’s afterlife is juggling between Chase and his reckless brother, neither of whom are willing to give up the girl they both love.

So much for resting in peace

Title: The Monster Within
Author: Kelly Hashway
Publisher: Spencer Hill Press
Release Date: April 2014

Description from Goodreads: The moment seventeen-year-old Samantha Thompson crawls out of her grave, her second chance at life begins. She died of cancer with her long-time boyfriend, Ethan, by her side–a completely unfair shot at life.

But Ethan found a way to bring her back, like he promised he would. Only Sam came back wrong.

She’s now a monster that drains others’ lives to survive. And after she kills, she’s tortured by visions—glimpses into her victims would-have-been futures had she not killed them. Barely able to live with herself and trying to make things right, Sam ends up a pawn in a vicious game of payback within the local coven of witches.

But when the game reveals what Ethan had to do to save Sam, she must make a choice that will change all their lives forever.

  1. The Monster Within sounds fantastic! I love the premise there and hope that it won’t fail to deliver. I haven’t heard of Of Breakable Things before, but I really like the sound of that one too. Thanks for putting it on my radar, Lyn. Great picks! 🙂

    • No problem, Lexxie! I am actually proud of my finds this week – WoW is the hardest meme for me, because I usually find great books off of other bloggers.
