stacking the shelves

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

Kara is out having an actual life this week. Dork.

So that leaves me in charge.

Fear not, peasants.  My mood is a jolly one at the moment.

I hoarded three weeks worth of books for this round up. Someone decided to dump off a lot of great books at my two favorite used bookstores. Sales and gift cards made this post possible.

The kitchen had the only uncluttered surface.

The Lottery Rose by Irene Hunt
The Vikings by Elizabeth Janeway
The Nightmare Affair by Mindee Arnett
Bliss by Kathryn Littlewood
Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes (I can’t find my other copy)
A Curse as Dark as Gold by Elizabeth C. Bunce (my sister borrowed this and LOVED it)
The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan (I can’t find my other copy – someone borrowed it, but I can’t remeber who has it…)
White Crow by Marcus Sedgwick
Gods of Asgard by Erik Evensen (so excited that I found this used during a Labor Day sale!!)

The Lost Sun by Tessa Gratton (I couldn’t resist any longer)
On the blog this week:
On Monday, Kara reviewed Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller with a wonderful, insightful post and 5 stars.
Lyn shared her top ten books to be converted into screen productions on Tuesday.
No Waiting on Wednesday this week! Instead, Lyn reviewed Laura Bickle’s The Hallowed Ones and happily gave the book 4 stars.
For Thursday, Kara makes a rare appearance this week and reviewed Fallout by Todd Strasser – it only gained two stars.
On Friday, Lyn and Jessie from Ageless Pages Reviews discuss and review Conjured by Sarah Beth Durst – this is one of Lyn’s favorite reviews!
Links We Love:
Debbie at Snuggly Oranges made a long and touching post about all of the drama (including author drama) going on in her life.  I just thought she could use the extra love at the moment.  Go give her a hug.
Pixie at The Bookaholic needs YOUR questions for her Q & A.  She’s wonderful, funny, smart, and overall just a joyous person!
Wendy at The Midnight Garden shares a giveaway and writing advice from author Kat Zhang – lovely!
Kara has a whole Cover Snark dedicated in her honor with Christina at A Reader of Fictions!
My reign of terror is over.  Until next week.

    • I am very curious about “A Curse as Dark as Gold” – it doesn’t seem to sit in the middle! I am sorry to hear you didn’t like it. 🙁

I have so many awesome books now….I need to get on it UGH!

  1. Amy

Great haul!! I want to read Falling Kingdoms. I’ve heard great things about it. I liked The Nightmare Affair. I didn’t love it, but it was enjoyable. I have the audiobook of The Lost Sun and can’t wait to listen to it!! Enjoy all of your new books.

  2. The Nightmare Affair has been on my TBR list for ages, so I hope you enjoy it and I look forward to your input. I’ve learned basically you can never go wrong with Rick Riordan, hahaha. I hope you enjoy the spinoff series to PJO. Happy reading!

    My STS is here.

    • I do as well, since I was so enthralled with the PJ series. I need to get my bottom in gear and read the books.

I have seen lukewarm reviews for the Nightmare Affair, but I want to go forward and read it. It helps to know exactly what you are getting into at times.

  3. RICK RIORDAN. Haha. Is it your first time reading them? Since you said you have a copy. The Lost Hero was kind of meh for me, but by Mark of Athena that series is pretty much just as good as the original. You can come to me with your feels 😉

I’m really curious about Falling Kingdoms! I’ve been meaning to check it out for a while 🙂 So I’ll keep an eye out for your review.

Awww, thank you so much for linking to me ♥ and your sweet comment ♥♥ see, this community is just freaking amazing ♥♥♥

    • I read the Pearcy Jackson series and loved it, so I wanted to get into the spin off series – I am sadly far behind.

Falling Kingdoms is looking very attractive – I suppose I should read it soon.

I adore you, Debbie! I know how it feels to be overwhelmed, targeted and, at times, betrayed by family, and all i can do is rally behind you. Trust me, I wish I could get you a real hug!

  4. Nice haul of books, I just picked up a copy of Falling Kingdoms from the library so looking forward to seeing what you think. I loved A Curse as Dark as Gold, I borrowed it from the library but need to buy myself a copy!

Enjoy your new books and happy reading 🙂

  5. Bliss looks ADORABLE. I really must get my hands on this one. I really loved Nightmare Affair and The Lost Hero both and I’ve heard amazing things abotu White Crow. Fantastic stack of books! Happy Reading! 🙂
