Welcome to this week’s Waiting on Wednesday. Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where we showcase upcoming releases we are looking forward to.

Hey, readers! I’m still trying to catch up from vacation, but I am almost there! This week I have a book to share with you that I’ve been waiting to post for a while but I’ve been putting it on the back burner for other books that I wanted to show first. Don’t ask me why, cuz I can’t tell you. But the reason may be that I wasn’t blown away by her other book that I read. Still. There is no denying that this blurb and cover resonates with me.

Title: Deathsworn

So when the Elders sent her to be magic tutor to a secret sect of assassins, she went willingly, even though the last two tutors had died under mysterious circumstances.

But beneath the assassins’ caves, Ileni will discover a new place and a new purpose… and a new and dangerous love. She will struggle to keep her lost magic a secret while teaching it to her deadly students, and to find out what happened to the two tutors who preceded her. But what she discovers will change not only her future, but the future of her people, the assassins… and possibly the entire world.

Description from Goodreads: The more things change…
Five years ago, the gods of ancient mythology awoke all around the world.

The more things stay the same…

This morning, Kyra Locke is late for school because of an argument with her father.

Seventeen-year-old Kyra lives in a transformed Washington, D.C., dominated by the embassies of divine pantheons and watched over by the mysterious Society of the Sun that governs mankind’s relations with the gods. But when rebellious Kyra encounters two trickster gods on her way home, one offering a threat and the other a warning, it turns out her life isn’t what it seems. She escapes with the aid of Osborne “Oz” Spencer, a young Society field operative, only to discover that her scholar father has disappeared with a dangerous Egyptian relic. The Society needs the item back, and they aren’t interested in her protests that she knows nothing about it or her father’s secrets.

Now Kyra must depend on her wits and the suspect help of scary Sumerian gods, her estranged oracle mother, and, of course, Oz–whose first allegiance is to the Society. She has no choice if she’s going to recover the missing relic and save her father. And if she doesn’t? Well, that may just mean the end of the world as she knows it. From the author of Blackwood comes a fresh, thrilling urban fantasy that will appeal to fans of Neil Gaiman, Cassandra Clare, and Rick Riordan.

  1. I love the sound of Death Sworn! I’ll have to wait for some reviews first, however, as I’ve never really loved the author’s writing in the past either. But I’m hoping it will be as great as it sounds. 🙂

The Woken Gods looks really good, too! I love anything to do with ancient egyptian mythology, so this one caught my eye straight away.

    Great picks, you two!

  2. “But the reason may be that I wasn’t blown away by her other book that I read. Still. There is no denying that this blurb and cover resonates with me.”

Yep. I hope that her work will live up to the promise of the premise for you! I am loving the assassin, romance, and high fantasy vibe I’m getting from the blurb.

Eeee, Egyptian mythology. (Which ranks higher, Lyn? Norse or Greek or Egyptian or is there no rank?) Secret societies are awesome as is the cover striking down Washington D.C. lol :). Hopefully you can read this one soon, since the pub date is fast approaching!

    • Norse! NORSE NORSE NORSE!!

I hope so as well, but I think I am not going to be approved for this one. Oh well! ARCs are nice, but I still would love to get my hands on it!

  3. Gah! Hell yeah, I am also waiting on BOTH those bad boys too! I discovered Death Sworn through my search for pretty covers for the Cover Madness (isn’t it totally drool-worthy?) but the synopsis got my attention even more! And Woken Gods? I have two words: Egyptian. Mythology. That is all. Fab picks ladies 😀
