Waitingonwednesday1

Welcome to this week’s Waiting on Wednesday. Waiting on Wednesday is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine where we showcase upcoming releases we are looking forward to.

This week I am featuring two upcoming contemporary titles–one YA and one NA–that you may or may not have heard of. But regardless, they are two I am very much looking forward to and have wishlisted because I do not have a chance in hell of obtaining ARCs for. Oh how I wish. And oh how I wish I had been able to obtain copies at BEA. :(

Title: Being Sloane Jacobs
Author: Lauren Morrill
Publisher: Delecorte
Release Date: January 7th, 2014

Description from GoodreadsMeet Sloane Emily Jacobs: a seriously stressed-out figure-skater from Washington, D.C., who choked during junior nationals and isn’t sure she’s ready for a comeback. What she does know is that she’d give anything to escape the mass of misery that is her life.

Now meet Sloane Devon Jacobs, a spunky ice hockey player from Philly who’s been suspended from her team for too many aggressive hip checks. Her punishment? Hockey camp, now, when she’s playing the worst she’s ever played. If she messes up? Her life will be over.

When the two Sloanes meet by chance in Montreal and decide to trade places for the summer, each girl thinks she’s the lucky one: no strangers to judge or laugh at Sloane Emily, no scouts expecting Sloane Devon to be a hero. But it didn’t occur to Sloane E. that while avoiding sequins and axels she might meet a hockey hottie—and Sloane D. never expected to run into a familiar (and very good-looking) face from home. It’s not long before the Sloanes discover that convincing people you’re someone else might be more difficult than being yourself.

It sounds like The Parent Trap crossed with the Cutting Edge. Can I have it, please? This sounds like SO MUCH FUN! And if you didn’t know, I have a huge figure skating obsession. GIMME.

Title: Roomies
Author: Sara Zarr, Tara Altebrando
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers
Release Date: December 24th, 2013

Description from GoodreadsIt’s time to meet your new roomie.

When East Coast native Elizabeth receives her freshman-year roommate assignment, she shoots off an e-mail to coordinate the basics: television, microwave, mini-fridge. That first note to San Franciscan Lauren sparks a series of e-mails that alters the landscape of each girl’s summer — and raises questions about how two girls who are so different will ever share a dorm room.

As the countdown to college begins, life at home becomes increasingly complex. With family relationships and childhood friendships strained by change, it suddenly seems that the only people Elizabeth and Lauren can rely on are the complicated new boys in their lives . . . and each other. Even though they’ve never met.

National Book Award finalist Sara Zarr and acclaimed author Tara Altebrando join forces for a novel about growing up, leaving home, and getting that one fateful e-mail that assigns your college roommate.

Hey, look! It’s a New Adult book with some substance that doesn’t focus on dysfunctional/unhealthy relationships and sex! Here’s looking at you, Beautiful Disaster! *winks* Also by one of my favorite contemporary authors? I NEED IT.

Thoughts on my picks this week?

I’m so excited for both of these! Being Sloane Jacobs sounds so cute and I love the cover, not to mention the hockey/ice skating theme. And Roomies…I mean, Sara Zarr. It’s bound to be fantastic. Great picks, Kara! :)

  2. Jaz

I saw the cover of Being Sloane Jacobs on Christina’s Cover Snark and instantly liked the cover but had no idea what it was, I’m REALLY intrigued now. I like The Parent Trap twist it has! Added it to my tbr.

Roomies sounded a bit confusing to me in the blurb but I like the idea of NA that doesn’t deal with extremely depressing issues.

  3. Amy

I’m really looking forward to Being Sloane Jacobs!! I hadn’t heard of Roomies I don’t think, but that one sounds awesome too!!! Great picks hon!!

  4. Christina

I have heard of both. MWAHAHA. I win.

However, I did not know that Roomies was NA, so I did learn something. Also, I would like both of these.

  5. Rachel

I LOVE the cover of BEING SLOANE JACOBS and I am sooo excited to read it. I really loved MEANT TO BE and I love that the covers match! :-) Is it January yet? LOL. I hadn’t really heard of this new Zarr book – thanks for pointing it out. Great picks!

As I was reading this synopsis for Being Sloane Jacobs I was thinking: Hmmm, hockey player and ice skater–that sounds like The Cutting Edge. Hmmm, they trade places–that sounds like the Parent Trap…And then I read your comment. Roomies does look really good, too. I haven’t actually read any “NA” books yet, mostly because the premises always sound like they are too full of angsty drama and abusive relationships. I’ll definitely pick this one up though. Great picks!
I just realized I was following your blog through Bloglovin only. Now following via GFC, too.

HAHAHAHA! Great minds think alike, no? Sara Zarr is amazing and if you haven’t read her yet, you should try some of her YA. It’s soooo good. Thank you for following us!

  7. Jessie

I love the covers for Lauren Morrill’s books. I really need to read Meant to Be, but BSJ looks awesome as well. How did I miss she had another book coming out? I wonder if its from Paper Lantern Lit. Off to GR to check!

As for Roomies: NEW SARA ZAAAAAAAR. I can’t wait for this one either. I admit I am… less than enthused.. about that cover, though.

  8. Brandy

Yes! I featured Being Sloane Jacobs as my WoW last week. My excitement can not be contained! I hadn’t heard of Roomies but it is now added to the TBR. Why has no one done that concept before? It’s utterly perfect.

  9. Bonnie R

I’m a total figure skating fan too so Being Sloane Jacobs is totally going on my list. Very cute cover too, I love it. I would have totally guessed Roomies would be a middle grade at first glance… or not. lol Great picks!
    My WoW Pick!

  10. Melanie

They both sound awesome! I saw Roomies the other day and it looks cute, what caught my eye was Sara Zarr. Aparently she’s a magnificnet author.

    Thanks for sharing, Kara! <33
