Stacking the Shelves #44

Posted May 25, 2013 by Kara in Kara, Lyn, Stacking the Shelves / 12 Comments

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

Lyn and I have decided that we are going to start posting our hauls together in the future, but since she doesn’t have a haul this week it will be just me. We are also going to start doing a link roundup and a summary of our past blog week at the bottom of the post. Normally, we post 7 days a week and some days it gets to be too much having to respond to all those comments and have content prepared every day of the week. So for the most part, we will be taking Sundays off. Every now and then we will have a giveaway or a DNF roundup and that will go up on Sunday, but from here on out, Sundays are for special events only. WE NEED A BREAK. šŸ™‚

So this week, I just have a baby haul. I got 3 books in the mail, but I got zero e-galleys and I’m actually really happy about that because BEA is next week and I leave for NYC in just 6 days as of this post. It’s also at this time that I should mention that I will have blog posts going up during the time I am away, but I will not be responding to comments or most emails. If you need me, you will have to contact me via Twitter or Facebook. And even then it might take a while. Of course, you could just call me or text me directly, but only very special people have that number. I will be responding to every comment and email when I return on the 2nd (probably more like the 3rd). Hopefully I will be sharing photos and fun tweets with you while I am there but I know how overwhelming and busy it is going to be so I don’t know how all that is going to work out. I’m extremely nervous but also really excited.

On to the books!

From Random House, I got a signed copy of Every Day by David Levithan. This was a Twitter contest win and I am so happy to finally have my copy. Thanks, Random House! I know this one is much loved amongst most book bloggers. I can’t wait to read it.

I also received an ARC of When You Were Here by Daisy Whitney from Little, Brown this week. I don’t remember if I entered a publisher giveaway for this or not. This would be the first ARC I have received from LB so I am guessing I must have. At any rate, I was thrilled for this to show up as I have been DYING for this book. You should have seen me jumping and dancing all the way from the mailbox back to my apartment. Ten minute walk, people. So however I got it, thank you Little, Brown!

And finally, I received an ARC of Horde by Ann Aguirre from Macmillan Kids. This is book three in the Razorland series and the final book in that series. I was a little disappointed with book two and the direction the series has been taking, but here’s to hoping it gets back on track with this third book and ends in a way I can live with. Either way, I can’t wait to read it because the author’s writing really speaks to me.

On the Blog:

On Monday, Kara reviewed Chantress by Amy Butler Greenfield and gave it 3 stars.

On Tuesday, Lyn chatted with us about her Top Ten Favorite Book Covers of books she’s read.

Wednesday, Kara shared two upcoming middle grade books she is looking forward to. She also reviewed All Woman and Springtime by Brandon W. Jones and gave it 3 stars.

Thursday, Lyn reviewed Midwinterblood by Marcus Sedgwick and gave it a BIG 5 stars. (Kara sidenote: I need to read this. I have a copy on my shelf.)

And finally, on Friday, Lyn reviewed The Year of Shadows by Clare Legrand (she adored it), and is generously giving away a copy to blog followers. And it’s international.

Links We Love:

This is where we will share links we love that we have seen around the internet this week.

Christina at A Reader of Fictions talks about why saying it’s ‘just a book’ is not okay. She also talks about loving and respecting book bloggers.

Rachel at Fiktshun shares her thoughts on how blogging should be about the books but sometimes isn’t.

Jamie at The Perpetual Page Turner shares her BEA faces with us because she wants to make sure you stop and say HI! And I agree. Please do! I don’t bite. Maybe a little.

Also, make sure you sign up for the Cover Madness Giveaway Hop that Giselle at Xpresso Reads and Jenni at Alluring reads are hosting.

Until next week!

  1. I’m one of those who enjoyed Leviathan, so, I’m pretty sure you won’t have any problems with it. I want Horde! Gimme now and you won’t get hurt! LOL

Seriously though, enjoy your trip to BEA!

Great haul chick!! Small ones are nice to get. It makes the huge tbr seem more manageable lol!! I hope you have a super fabulous time at BEA!! I can’t wait to see pics and random tweets. I’m sure there will be tons of fun ones!! Enjoy!!

  3. Oh Horde! I really have to finish that series I read the 1st and I’m still super curious what happens next. And thanks for linking our hip sign up, chickies! <3

  4. Have fun at the BEA! I still need to read the second book to the series of Enclave, I can’t find it anywhere- which irritates me greatly. Anywho, I hope you enjoy reading those pretty looking books! <33

  5. Oooo I’m reading that Daisy Whitney book right now! It’s pretty good, but I haven’t made it to the part where he goes to Japan, so I’m sure it’ll get better after that. Hope you like it (and the others)! šŸ™‚

  6. I have not read Every Day yet either but there has been quite a bit of buzz for it. I got my copy signed last weekend so hopefully I’ll get to read it soon too! The Daisy Whitney book sounds great. I have yet to pick up a book by the author. Have fun in BEA!!!! šŸ™‚

Thanks for stopping by my post!
