Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.  This week’s topic:
Top Ten Books I HAD To Buy…But Are Still Sitting On My Shelf Unread

You see it online.  You see it in the bookstore.  You have to have it – now.  Your life will end if you do NOT have this book.  You bargain and reason with yourself.  You fail.  You buy it.

Every. Damn. Time.

You get it. You bring it home. And you add it to the shelf that might crush you death in your sleep. Congratulation, you have a problem. And none of us are going to plan your intervention, because we know we’re next in line. This week, I am going to hang my head and tearfully share my top books that I HAD to have… and are now collecting dust.

The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente – Everyone keeps telling me to read it.  Owning it was half the battle.

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordan – I can’t believe I am so far behind on this series.  I haven’t even opened the first book.

Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan – Raving reviews – I got it – I haven’t even opened it.

Between Shades of Gray by Ruta Sepetys – Everyone said to own it.  And I did.

The Hero’s Guide to Saving Your Kingdom by Christopher Healy – I had to have this one when I read the description, and have it I did! I even broke my rules and went to Barnes and Nobel and bought it.  Still sitting with the receipt in the cover.

Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama – Goodreads highly recommended that I read it.  At least I bought it.

The Faerie Ring by Kiki Hamilton – The second book is already here.  The first one remains untouched on my bookshelf.

Valkyrie Rising by Ingrid Paulson – I waited with baited breath for the release.  Now I am waiting with baited breath to actually read it.

Days of Blood and Starlight by Laini Taylor – I was DYING for this book.

Scarlet by Marissa Meyer- I’m still upset that I haven’t even opened it on my Kindle. Bleh.

What books made your list this week? Leave me a link!

  1. Aaaa Valkyrie Rising is so good! But the same thing happens to me all the time. Most are free e-books though that’s too tedious to list. 😛

  2. I am so disappointed in you. Glow and Between Shades of Gray are books I’ll have to hunt down to find and read them, but you have them. And you’ve not read them!

To be honest I have a copy of Scarlet, but I haven’t read it yet and I know I can find Days of Blood and Starlight when I finally decide to read it.

  3. Don’t feel bad! You should totally see the one’s I posted! We spend all this money on books, and they just sit there collecting dust and looking pretty on our shelves. Definitely need to do a clean up challenge or something to get motivated.

  4. Lol! We had similar openings. This amuses me.

Books on your list I also have sitting on my shelves unread: The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland and Tired out My Fingers with Her Absurdly Long Title, Glow, The Hero’s Guide to Saving the Kingdom, and Days of Blood and Starlight. The only one I know I’ll get to soon is Hero’s Guide because I lucked into an ARC of the sequel. Now I HAVE to read it.

  5. I have Between Shades of Grey, too … AND Scarlet, AND Days of Blood and Starlight. I really must read them! I think I get nervous when a book is highly recommend, thinking I might hate it. But I should still give it a try! I do love that cover for the Faerie Ring … gorgeous!

  6. You REALLY need to read Monstrous Beauty. It’s one of my favorite titles, probably ever. The writing was just so gorgeous, gahhh.

I really think you’ll love The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland. The writing is gorgeous, it’s really quite wry and witty, and of course it’s a wonderful story. I think you’ll enjoy it a LOT.

    • I know!! I feel like a terrible person because I haven’t read it!! 🙁

It looks like it can break me out of my reading anxiety. I should read it.

  7. I’m always glad when I find someone else that hasn’t read Cinder – I feel an immediate affinity with them and far less alone 😉

I liked Between Shades of Grey, Sepetys did a great job with that one.

  8. Amy

Scarlet and The Kingdoms guide are two that I have and still have yet to read too. I got Days of Blood and Starlight from the library and never read it before it was due back. Lol!!

  9. So many good books in here Lyn! I hope you get to them soon. I loved Fairyland, Scarlet, DoBaS, Monstrous Beauty, and Shades of Grey. I hope you get to them soon!

(I also own the Lost Hero and have yet to get to it. One day…. hopefully!)

Valkyrie Rising has had so many good reviews – I need to get that one soon.

  10. Scarlet, DoBaS, and Between Shades of Gray are all AMAZING! I have Glow and The Girl Who… on my shelves too, so I’ll need to pick those up soon. I swear, it’s like they’re collecting dust! 😉

  11. GLOW!!!!!!!! I only got that book because I received the sequel for review. I wasn’t even sure I’d like it but I did, it’s an awesome series. You know book three comes out this year, you should read Glow & Spark in preparation *nudge*

  12. The Lost Hero!!! EEP. It may be good that you waited, because I found The Lost Hero and The Son of Neptune a bit weak – but then The Mark of Athena happened and asdfjkl; it was just as beautiful as the original series. Seriously, get to that though.

I’m with you on Days of Blood and Starlight and Scarlet. I’ve honestly had the former since November. Disgraceful. I don’t know why I keep putting it off. T_T

    • I was very fond of the Percy series, and I want to read this book as soon as I can get to it.

I think about what I liked about the first book, and I see that the second book cannot have some of the elements of “Smoke and Bone” and become super depressed.

  13. A big yes to The Girl who Circumnavigated Fairyland – I bought if forever ago too and I STILL haven’t read it. I really want to though but I keep getting distracted by other books o.O

I hope you’ll LOVE Days of Blood & Starlight as much as I did! And I still need to read Cinder before I get to Scarlet hehe I hope you get to all of these soon 🙂
