Waiting on Wednesday #15

Posted February 20, 2013 by Kara in Waiting on Wednesday / 19 Comments

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. This is where we post upcoming releases we are looking forward to.

This week I have a sequel I am looking forward to more than anything that I would probably sell my husband for (if that was legal), and a book that should be getting more attention than it is. It has a bad-ass cover as well.

The fall 2013 catalogs are starting to come out, so things should start picking up around here again with the fun upcoming finds. At least I hope so.

Publisher: Scholastic
Release Date: October 1st, 2013

Publisher’s Description: The thrilling sequel to Sharon Cameron’s blockbuster gothic steampunk romance, THE DARK UNWINDING, will captivate readers anew with mystery and intrigue aplenty.

When Katharine Tulman wakes in the middle of the night and accidentally foils a kidnapping attempt on her uncle, she realizes that Stranwyne Keep is no longer safe for Uncle Tully and his genius inventions. She flees to Paris, where she hopes to remain undetected and also find the mysterious and handsome Lane, who is suspected to be dead.

But the search for Lane is not easy, and Katharine soon finds herself embroiled in a maze of political intrigue. And with unexpected enemies and allies at every turn, Katharine will have to figure out who she can trust–if anyone–to protect her uncle from danger once and for all.

Filled with deadly twists, whispering romance, and heart-stopping suspense, this sequel to THE DARK UNWINDING whisks readers off on another thrilling adventure.

More Uncle Tully? More of one of my most favorite characters in the entire universe? Yes, please. Attention, publicist at Scholastic. You can send an ARC of this anytime you want and I will be happy to provide my address. 😀

Publisher: Balzer + Bray
Release Date: September 17th, 2013

Publisher’s Description: It all began with a ruined elixir and an accidental bolt of lightning…

Iolanthe Seabourne is the greatest elemental mage of her generation—or so she’s being told. The one prophesied for years to be the savior of The Realm. It is her duty and destiny to face and defeat the Bane, the greatest mage tyrant the world has ever known. A suicide task for anyone let alone a sixteen-year-old girl with no training, facing a prophecy that foretells a fiery clash to the death.

Prince Titus of Elberon has sworn to protect Iolanthe at all costs but he’s also a powerful mage committed to obliterating the Bane to revenge the death of his family—even if he must sacrifice both Iolanthe and himself to achieve his goal.

But Titus makes the terrifying mistake of falling in love with the girl who should have been only a means to an end. Now, with the servants of the Bane closing in, he must choose between his mission and her life.

The cover for this one was just released this past week. I LOVE it. Yes, it’s high fantasy and I know that’s not a genre for everyone, but it IS a genre for me. Not to mention, the roiling whirlpool on the cover reminds me of The Sundering or Maelstrom in World of Warcraft.

Those are my picks this week. Thoughts? Comments? Until next week. happy reading!

  1. These are both new to me. I didn’t realize The Dark Unwinding was getting a sequel. I was mixed on that book so I’m not sure if I want to check it out. But I definitely want to read The Burning Sky-I’ve had really good luck with Balzer + Bray books so I have high hopes for this one.

  2. I haven’t read The Dark Unwinding yet but I remember reading… I think Christina’s review or maybe it was even yours and thinking that it sounded really good. I should really get on that since people are getting excited for the second one already!

  4. Both your picks look amazing! I LOVE the cover of The Burning Sky. There have been some stellar covers revealed in the past week or so, but it’s nice to see one that’s new to me. Thanks so much for the suggestions!

The Burning Sky sounds BRILLIANT. I discovered that book a few days ago and have been looking forward to it ever since. I haven’t read The Dark Unwinding yet, but I have a copy of the book now and can’t wait to get started on it. I know a lot of people enjoyed it. 🙂

    Great picks!

  6. The Burning Sky seems like it’s going to be one epic book. I mean look at that cover. I still haven’t read The Dark Unwinding although I’ve been meaning to. I need to borrow that one from the library!
    Great picks, Kara!

  7. I LOVE both of these covers. I haven’t read The Dark Unwinding yet but I have been meaning to. I hadn’t heard of The Burning Sky before but I am a huge fan of high fantasy so it’s definitely on my radar now!
