I’m so excited.

This week, I am going to live vicariously through fictional characters in books and share my top ten favorite romances.

10. Madrigal and Akiva from the Daughter of Smoke and Bone series – Akiva turns into a super-creep when he meet Karou, but his “first” girlfriend was great, and I enjoyed the romance between the two star-crossed lovers a quite a bit.

9. Eva and Sean from The Lost Girl – The book was outstanding, and the romantic relationship between the two characters made the entire book pop.  If you haven’t read this book, I would suggest it strictly for the lovely moments between the two.

8. Knife and Paul from Spell Hunter – The courtship of Knife and Paul made my toes curl and my insides squeal.  This book had one of the best romances I have ever read because the two of them accept each other and truly accept one another for better or worse.

7. Cinder and Prince Kai from Cinder – I wasn’t crazy about the book like the other thousands of people on GoodReads, but I did thoroughly enjoy the flirtation between the two main characters.

6. Katniss and Peeta from The Hunger Games trilogy- I was Team Peeta from the start.  I always felt horrible for him, and the reason for their relationship at the end broke my heart, but it isn’t always a lovey-dovey sugary sweet world.

5. Silena Beauregard and Charles Beckendorf from The Percy Jackson series – I don’t want to spoil anything  for our readers who have not read the series, but Silena will always be one of my favorite characters, and her relationship with Beckendorf was the BEST romance in the entire series.  I love them both.

4. Penryn and Raffe from Angelfall – Their romance was on FIRE.  It was touching, it was stormy, and it was inspiring.

3. Meg and Michael from the Unearthly trilogy – Clara and her love triangle brings a certain flavor to the entire series, but Meg and Michael’s romance was lovely and beautiful.  I wish with all of my heart that Meg would get her own series in a prequel to Unearthly.

2. Cas and Anna from the Anna Dressed in Blood series – I know a lot of people thought it was cheesy, but I found Cas and Anna and their courtship so sweet and endearing!

1. Adele and Gareth from the Vampire Empire series – Is it bad that I keep plugging this series? Hell no.  The relationship was realistic, and to be blunt, very sexy.

  1. Yes! Team Peeta! No one else I know ship Katniss/Peeta so this is a very exciting moment for me. I always felt the romance with Katniss and Gale really creepy. They seemed more like family than anything else, so all those kisses felt a little forced and a LOT incestuous.

And I’m so glad to have found someone else who is NOT a fan of Creeper Akiva. I thought he was just as bad as a lot of other PNR heroes, but everyone just overlooked him because Taylor has pretty writing. I don’t think so! I much prefer him with Madrigal – he was a much stronger character then, and while that isn’t my favorite relationship ever, I at least get it. It was insta-love but not as bad as his relationship with Karou – which made no sense at all to me.

    • I never really warmed up to Gale. I suppose I just love the underdog.

Akiva…..just…..no. I did love bits and pieces of DoSaB, but he was not one of them. I’m so glad you are pro-Madrigal, everyone else practically hates her.

  2. Ewww gif.

Wow, really? I hated Madrigal and Akiva. Bahahaha. Actually, the only three I’ve read are ones I’m not super sold on. That’s hilarious. I wonder what you look in for romances that’s different from my tastes?

Oh, I have to say that I love that you included secondary characters! That’s not something I’ve seen others do, and it’s great.

    • Most people despise Madrigal and Akiva. I seem to be in the minority. I find it interesting that I have friends with such a wide taste! Maybe we’ll find a book that we agree upon.

I am attracted to a story when the secondary characters are AWESOME. That is the only reason why I don’t tear Twilight to shreds – I actually like some of the other characters in the universe.

  3. Eva and Sean! Penryn and Raffe! But I’m with Christina on Madrigal and Akiva, hah–the book was so good until all that happened. 😉

I love that you include Maggie and Michael from Unearthly, too. Although I love Maggie’s sad, sad story with Samjeeza as well. Nice picks!

    Wendy @ The Midnight Garden

    • I wanted to tell why I love Eva and Sean so much, but it is a spoiler and I didn’t want to wreck it for anyone else.
And you’re not the only one on the anti-Madrigal path – most people dislike her. I’m the oddball, it seems.

I KNOW, WENDY! Maggie is so freaking awesome! She had two wonderful romances, and I don’t want to get bits and pieces, I want the entire story!!

  4. Amy

What a fantastic list!! I totally agree with Eva and Sean!! I loved them!! And yes, I was Team Peeta from the beginning too. I would love an Unearthly prequel series. That would be awesome!!

  5. Madrigal and Akiva along with Sean and Eva are two of my favorite couples, along with Peeta and Katniss. I was Team Peeta from the beginning too, but I loved the bittersweet end to their romance.

  6. Is it bad that the only books on this list that I’ve read are THG, Unearthly, Anna, and Percy Jackson? And that I don’t even remember who those two characters you mentioned from PJ are? *ducks from flying object* Yeah, I definitely need to read more books with good romances. And aw, Meg and Michael! We didn’t get to see much of their romance, but still. AW. I’m also a bit partial to Samjeeza and Meg’s romance, even though that may be a twisted thing to say. IT WAS CUTE! And I never really took Cas and Anna’s relationship to be a romance, to be honest, but I can see how other’s may take it that way.

    • A lot of people disliked Cas and Anna. I ate it up.

Sam and Meg are hot as well. Clara’s mom had it going on!!

I don’t want to add spoilers for PJ, so I can’t reveal the big “A-ha” bout them. Silena was one of the girls in the stables.

  7. Awesome choices, Lyn! I love Cas and Anna and Cinder and Kai as well. And of course, Maggie and Michael’s romance is beautiful. I haven’t read all of these books but most of them are on my TBR and now I’m more tempted than ever to start!

    • I have Scarlet on my Kindle!! *dance dance* I’m SO hyped about the sequel!!

I have some awesome books listed – I hope you get to read some of them (Angelfall – you HAVE to read Angelfall!!)
