Stacking the Shelves #29

Posted February 9, 2013 by Kara in Stacking the Shelves / 25 Comments

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

OMG. This week you guys. It was out of bookish control. I thought that I might film a vlog to show this awesomeness, but unfortunately my roots are really gross right now and I didn’t have time to dye them. And I refuse to go on camera with dark roots.

But anyway, I got a TON of physical books this week and I got some e-books too. I am stressed the hell out because I was behind last week and now I am even MORE behind. But I’m so excited at the same time.

Last week y’all told me how much you loved my tropical/outdoor photo so I did it again this week. And almost tripped going down the stairs, but I made it and took the following photo. I already have a place picked out for next week’s photo if I get any physical books.

Starting at the top, I received a signed ARC of 17 & Gone by Nova Ren Suma from Dutton and LibraryThing’s Early Reviewers program. I was excited that I won this but I had no idea it was signed until it arrived at my apartment. THAT was an awesome surprise.

From The Midnight Garden and the lovely Wendy Darling, I received an ARC of The Friday Society by Adrienne Kress. I won this in a giveaway they were holding. I rarely win giveaways, FYI.

Next, I got my editor’s copy of Sins & Needles by Karina Halle. This book is gorgeous in person. WOW. And if I haven’t talked you into buying it yet, go buy it! Because it’s awesome. And I’m not just saying that because I worked on it. It truly is. And the reviews don’t lie.

I received my copy of The Silence of Bonaventure Arrow for an upcoming TLC Book Tour. They are an awesome company to work with. Trust me. And if you are looking for an uncomplicated, low stress tour company to work with, this is the one. They don’t do too many YA tours, but they do a few, and the book selection is always fab.

Next are my copies from MacKids that I got a couple of weeks ago and I forgot to include in my haul. I am a failure. But I have remembered and here they are. I got copies of Mortal Fire by Elizabeth Knox and The Fury by Alexander Gordon Smith.

Lastly, I received a copy of The Tin Horse by Janice Steinberg from Random House Readers Circle. Every now and then I get a book from RHRC and I am always so excited. This one looks really interesting and it is a beautiful hardcover.

E-Books Bought

SOOOOO addicted to this series. I bought and finished On Demon Wings by Karina Halle. I loved it but not as much as Lying Season. I then went right ahead and bought Old Blood which is Pippa’s novella and I can’t wait to read that. If you are looking for reviews of Lying Season or On Demon Wings, you won’t find them because I am not reviewing them. As much as I want to, I think at this point it would be a conflict of interest since I am working so closely with this author. I did NOT edit these novels, but I still think it’s unfair of me to rate and review them. They are freaking AWESOME though.

Wow!! You had quite an epic week!! Love the pic. Very pretty. Glad that you didn’t trip getting down the stairs to take it, though almost is still scary. OMG The Fury sounds so awesome!! Can’t wait to see what you think of it!!

  2. I can’t wait to see what you think of 17 & Gone, Kara! I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Nova Ren Suma’s books, and I think Wendy just finished and really liked that one, so I hope you like it, too! And I see a lot of people getting The Fury lately and DAMN it’s huge. Great haul, girl!

  3. Yay! Congratulations Kara on winning the Friday Society from Wendy et al! I have that book on hold at the library, so, I shall keep an eye out on your blog to see what your thoughts are. Love the outdoors-y picture. :O) Have a great weekend!

  4. Congratulations on wins, Kara! I can’t wait to see your review of 17 & Gone – Suma is one of my all-time favorite authors. So obviously you have to love it or we can’t be friends.

I absolutely love all of Karina Halle’s cover. Every single one. I feel like they were designed for me, because every time I see them I am SO tempted to buy ALL the books!

I’m really excited to read Zebra Forest. It sounds totally wacky and out-there. I hope it’s great 🙂

    • This will be the first time reading one of her books. I still haven’t gotten around to reading Imaginary Girls. I fail.

I love her covers too. My favorites Are Sins and Needles and On Demon Wings. Though I do love Old Blood too.

I cannot WAIT to read Zebra Forest.

Lovely haul, Karina! 17 & Gone is a book I am itching to read. I can’t wait to see what you think of it. And I love the cover for Zebra Forest! I haven’t seen that book before, but I’m off to investigate now. 🙂

  6. UGH! You suck it wit your stupid sun and your stupid garden and your stupid spiders!!!

Oh! 17 and Gone looks so god I’m excited to read that one! And Sins & Needles! AAAH I have to get a print copy! Nice haul! I hope the sun burns them!

  7. Look at all the bookie-wooks!

Okay, you got some freaking amazing books! also, I like how you’re all “I hardly ever win giveaways,” but have two in a row from giveaways with thousands of entries. I’ve entered the LibraryThings ones like a million times and never won a thing.

    Woo! Sins & Needles!

TLC! Yeah! They were really nice about the books not arriving on time. I was like “maybe I should try to get it done in a day,” and they talked me down.

I did not get either of those Mac Kids books. Will I regret it? Tune in later to find out!

    • But it’s so rare, I swear!! I think you win more from LT is you currently post your reviews over there. I enter every batch religiously too. But I only pick the books I really want. I dunno.

TLC is very nice. They even let you post negative reviews.

I hope I love the MacKids books!

  8. FAB haul this week girl! I REALLY want to read The Friday Society, congrats on winning it 😀 And I’ve heard nothing but awesome things about Sins & Needles & 17 & Gone so congrats on the signed copy!! PS-I’m loving your garden shots, it’s such a contrast from the ‘snow-garden’ I got going on here >.< All the e-books you got are new ones for me but they look great, especially On Demon Wings & Old Blood. Congrats on all the loot!
