Top Ten Tuesday: Books I Can’t Believe I Never Read

Posted December 25, 2012 by Kara in Uncategorized / 24 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Books I Can’t Believe I Never Read. I chose this topic because it’s Christmas, we are all busy, and I wanted to do a topic that was easy to complete. This one is SOOO easy to complete. There are a ton of books I can’t believe I haven’t read yet. Some that will probably make your mouth drop open. I could easily do more than ten. The fun thing about this list is that I totally am going to fit some of these books in to my reading schedule in 2013. So have no fear, those that are furious with me. I will fix this soon.

1. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
2. Lord of the Rings Trilogy by J.R.R. Tolkien
3. Unearthly by Cynthia Hand
4. Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor
5. Insurgent by Veronica Roth
6. Angelfall by Susan Ee
7. Jellicoe Road by Melina Marchetta
8. The Fault in Our Stars by John Green
9. The Giver by Lois Lowry
10. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

I KNOW!!! Don’t hate me. I totally have all of these on my TBR list and I am hoping, HOPING, I can get to some of these in 2013. And there are so many more. But these are some of the most shameful. I am EMBARRASSED to show you this list. Now do me a favor, and tell me how not awful I am in the comments. And leave a link to your post and I will stop by and comment!

Sorry so short this week, it’s Christmas. πŸ™‚

  1. WHAT? Kara! I’ve read ALL OF THESE! Although, I’ll tell you right now, you’re not missing much with Unearthly. I was very unimpressed, but since you haven’t read Angelfall or DoSaB, you might enjoy it. Seriously though, you NEED to read Angelfall and DoSaB! THEY ARE SO GOOD! Jellicoe Road will make you cry, Lord of the Rings is the BEST SERIES IN THE WORLD, TFiOS will also make you cry, The Giver is a quick read, and TKaM is…wow. I just don’t have words to explain that novel. Anyway, you need to read these ASAP, Kara! You’re not awful, don’t worry. I haven’t read SO many books and frankly speaking, you’re so brave to tell us about these. If you knew all the books I haven’t read, you’d judge me too, so it’s all good. Plus, now you know you have SO much to look forward to! πŸ˜€ I hope you love these when you get around to reading them, dear! πŸ™‚

    • I am so embarrassed. Haha! I’m going to read them all, I swear! The reason why I listed Unearthly is because I know how much Steph loves that series.

Thank you for calling me brave. I thought I was going to get bitch slapped over this. LOLOL.

I really am looking forward to reading some of these this year.

  2. I love the list that you’re sharing, Kara! I have only read Unearthly and Insurgent from your list, and please don’t feel bad. Many of the classics that I read were in Chinese and then I didn’t really feel like wanting to read the English version when I was older. I’m also planning to read The Fault in Our Stars and probably Angelfall in 2013. Hope you’re enjoying a lovely Christmas πŸ™‚

    • Thanks, Henrietta! It doesn’t matter though that you read them in Chinese, you still read them! LOL. I hope you had a wonderful holiday also. I’m so gonna read some of these in 2013.

  3. I’m with you on 1,2,5,8,9 and 10. I actually picked up LoTRs in the library the other day but put it back cause it was missing pages and it was the only copy! πŸ™

DoSaB is lovely, Angelfall awesome and Jellicoe Road is amazing!

Didn’t do a list but I haven’t read Harry Potter..b-but I did borrow the first two books in the same library trip and hope to read them before 2013!

    • Okay, now I don’t feel so bad because you haven’t read HP. You are brave for stating that! It’s an awesome series and I wish I could experience it for the first time again. You are lucky!

  4. Apart from the first Lord of the Rings and Wuthering Heights (I SO didn’t like it, from all the Classics I’ve read this is my least favourite) – I haven’t read any of these either. I do have most of them glaring at me from my TBR.

    • Really? So many people love that book, so you have helped lower my expectations a little. I am working my way slowly through Jane Eyre right now and I am having a bit of trouble. But I’m trying!

Thanks for making me feel a bit better!

  5. I also haven’t read a lot of these. I have the feeling you’d really like Daughter of Smoke and Bone, though.

I haven’t read any Melina Marchetta, so don’t feel bad. I know she’s basically the queen of Australian YA, and I’ve had Jellicoe Road for a couple years, but I still haven’t gotten to it. Hopefully in 2013 I’ll get to see what everyone’s obsessing over.

I hope you had a great Christmas πŸ™‚

    • I totally intend to read Smoke and Bone soon. Especially since book two is out now.

Melina Marchetta is awesome. You need to read her. It’s funny, I haven’t read her two most famous books, but the ones I did read I loved. I have a copy of Jellicoe Road, I just keep skipping over it. I need to fix that soon.

I hope you had a lovely holiday too!

  6. I haven’t read a lot of these, either! Wuthering, The Giver (I don’t think anyway), DoSaB (but I have a copy) and Angelfall (also have a copy). I hope you do get around to Jellicoe and TFiOS in 2013!!

  7. I’ve read eight out of these books, and one (Angelfall) I’m actually starting tonight, hah. πŸ™‚ Wuthering Heights was a raw, passionate, bloody brilliant book, and you MUST read Unearthly, DoSaB, To Kill a Mockingbird (one of my all-time favourites), Jellicoe Road (*screams* DO IT, DO IT!) and The Giver.

But seriously, I’ll be hovering behind your shoulder, making sure you read these! πŸ˜‰

    • Oooh, I can’t wait to see what you think of Angelfall, Leanne. I will read them all, no worries. It’s kind of my personal challenge this year. I don’t know if I will get to Tolkien, but the rest for sure.

  8. You should definitely read all of these, except maybe Insurgent. Then again, I didn’t like Divergent, so…

The Giver didn’t really work as well for me reading it as an adult, so I’m not sure about that one either, but it’s still probably worth a try.

    • I liked Divergent, I just wasn’t blown away by the book. I did like it enough to continue on. I bought Insurgent, so…

I have a friend IRL that has been on my ass to read The Giver for a year. He read it as an adult so I THINK I’ll be okay. Not sure though.

This post…made a little sad. lol Two of my favoritest favorite books ever are on this list – WUTHERING HEIGHTS and THE LORD OF THE RINGS. And Laini Taylor is one of my favorite YA writers, so double sad! lol You MUST read DAUGHTER OF SMOKE & BONE! YOU MUST!!!

    • I know!! I iz so ashamed!! I bought LOTR though and it is on the list for this year. So is Daughter of Smoke and Bone. We’ll see about Wuthering Heights. Time permitting and all that.
