Stacking the Shelves #23

Posted December 29, 2012 by Kara in Stacking the Shelves / 33 Comments

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

Everyone is going to have these monstrous Christmas hauls this week and I look forward to seeing them, but I just got three books. One that I won in a giveaway from Christina at Reader of Fictions, one that was a Kindle Daily Deal (seriously, if you have a Kindle, subscribe to those emails), and one I bought with an Amazon gift card for being an Amazon Associates participant, . That’s right. I finally got a ten dollar gift card LOLOL.

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday this year. My Christmas went to shit because I had a migraine the 23rd-24th, and then on the 25th I had stomach problems. I’m still not feeling great today, but I am well enough to blog so here I am. So even though my Christmas stank and I stayed at home the whole time, I still hope you guys got everything you wanted. And I am looking forward to commenting on your hauls.

On to the books.

Middle Ground (Awaken #2)  by Katie Kacvinsky
This is book two in the series, and I was supposed to get a copy of Awaken too but it has not arrived yet. I hope they have not forgotten. But I will hold off on reading this one to see if they send it to me. But thanks for this go to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Children’s Book Group and Christina at Reader of Fictions.
With my Amazon gift card I bought a copy of Skylark by Meagan Spooner. I have been wanting this book for a while now, but the e-book is always too expensive. It still was $10.36, but because my gift card was for @10.39, I went for it. LOL and now I have three cents left over.
I also bought a copy of Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry because it was the Kindle Daily Deal and I think I am the last blogger on the planet who hasn’t read it yet. The blurb never interested me that much, but all the raving reviews have me wanting to pick this one up soon!
And that’s it for me! Leave me a comment with links to your awesome book hauls and I will come check them out! Until next week, happy reading!!

  1. You are not the last one! LOL I haven’t read Pushing The Limits too! 😉 So sorry, your Christmas was shitty and I hope you’ll be able to have a better New Year’s Eve. I’ve also got Skylark on my wishlist, but waiting until a paperback becomes available. Enjoy all your reads, Kara!

  2. I have had a copy of Pushing the Limits since BEA, and I still haven’t read it. It was just one of those things where I happened to be passing by, and picked up a copy. The blurb wasn’t all that interesting to me either, but I do plan on reading it, since it seems like nearly everyone in the world loves it.

    • Yeah, I feel the same. I wouldn’t have picked this one up if it wasn’t on the good words of everyone else. But I feel like I have to now. And it was cheap, so I did.

OMG I just got Middle Ground last week and I was supposed to get Awaken, Middle Ground, and First Comes Love, but only that came… like a month and a half after I won it. Can’t wait to see what you think of Pushing the Limits. I loved it!! Skylark sounds really good too. Great haul babe!!

    • You too, huh? Kinda pissed they only sent one book of the three we were supposed to get. I will remember this publisher in the future if they approach me about doing tours. I’m not going to screw my followers like that.

Good to know about Pushing the Limits. I’ve heard lots of good things about Skylark but I don’t think it is a book for everybody.

  4. I hope you enjoy Skylark more than I enjoyed it, Kara! I DNFed it more than halfway through, I think. The first half was way too crazy and random for me, and a particular scene that I assume was intended to be serious yet had me laughing my ass of was the breaking point. (She has a stare down with a “scary”, dirty outsider, and then he breaks the stare and jumps out the nearest window.) And I’ve heard such amazing things about Pushing The Limits – I should have gotten it when it was Amazon’s Daily Deal! *kicks rocks* Oh well. I hope you like that one, too! Great haul, hon!

    • I can’t wait to get to this scene. I hope I laugh like you did because that would just be worth it.

You can subscribe to those daily deals so they are delivered to your inbox when they are posted and you will never miss one. That’s how I am so on the ball with all of them. 🙂

  5. Bahaha, I don’t have a massive Christmas haul either. My parents don’t really buy me books, because I have so many already.

Glad they sent you something, even though they’d said they were doing a pack. Whatever. I’m so done with most blog tours. Just ugh.

I enjoyed Skylark, though it had some issues, like the scene Blythe talks about above.

    • Yeah, Dan is the dame way. He got me a new comforter for my bed instead. It’s what I really wanted anyway because I buy books all year long.

I know. It’s not your fault about the blog tour. I’ll just be wary of that publisher in the future if they approach me for a tour.

Did you laugh at that scene too? I can’t wait until I get to this scene.

  6. Our used bookstore chain out here had a 20% off sale – I have a HUGE new pile of books.

Only three!? Santa needs to get is butt back to your place!x

  7. XP I was sick on Christmas too! It sucked, hopefully your better now ^__^ I’ve wanted to read Awaken but havent had the time =/ I hope you get that copy so u can read Middle Ground (whose got an awesome cover). YA Ebooks can be pretty pricey, but Skylark sounds good and LOL, ur not the last blogger to read Pushing the Limits, i haven’t read it either!

-Great books this week Kara! =D

  8. I have an have not yet read both Skylark and Pushing the Limits. $10 for an ebook? That’s expensive. I don’t even like to pay that much for a paperback LOL. I look forward to your reviews, they are always so spot on. Hope you enjoy your books!

  9. OMG!! Pushing the Limits is SO FREAKING GOOD! I can’t believe you haven’t read it yet!! I also really enjoyed Skylark! Have a wonderful new year, Kara pie!

  10. Still so excited that you got Pushing the Limits. I hope you enjoy it! 😀
Don’t think I’ve heard of the other two yet. I’ll have to look them up. 🙂

    Happy reading!

  11. I’ve wanted Skylark FOR SO LONG! I love the cover, and most of my GR friends raaaaved about it. It is quite pricey -(yay for you getting your giftcard, too!), so I will wait for a paperback edition or a nook/kindle steal.

I read and liiiiked PtL – it had its moments of awesomeness and of not so greatness. When it was good, it was really good, and when it was bad, it was hilariously bad. Hope you like it, Kara!

  12. All I want to know is: WHAT WILL YOU BUY WITH YOUR THREE CENTS?

Okay, I haven’t read SKYLARK either, but I intend to very soon! I’m glad I’m not the only one on the planet who hasn’t read it. I’m really curious what you will think of PTL, too–everyone and his mother loved it, but my reaction wasn’t quite so enthused. I look forward to hearing what you thin of both!

    • Hahaha, I know right? 3 lousy cents left over. I guess they will put it towards my next purchase!

So you didn’t like PTL that much? Ooooh, interesting. Now I am truly interested to read it. Hopefully I will be able to curl up with this one soon!
