Stacking the Shelves #21

Posted December 15, 2012 by Kara in Stacking the Shelves / 31 Comments

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

This week I didn’t get anything in the mail, but I got approved for a couple of e-books that I am really exited about. Edelweiss put up a ton of books this week for request and I ignored them all because most of them had January release dates and I already have too many arcs as it is for that month. Same thing with February. I did, however, re-request Mila 2.0 after being declined, and because I updated my stats, they approved me. I’m not sure why but I was excited when they did! That made my day.

Here are the books:

Strands of Bronze and Gold by Jane Nickerson
Why: Well, I marked this one tbr on Goodreads a long time ago. As someone who is not a huge fan of historical, this one really intrigued me. I will read historical, but I am very particular about my choices. It’s all about the blurb, baby! I hope it’s as good as it sounds.
Broken Elements by Mia Marshall
Why: I was sent a request for this by the author. She was fully aware of my policy on no self-published authors unless it is an author I know, but she took the time to explain herself and wrote me a really nice and personalized request promising me that if I didn’t like the book, she would totally be okay with that. How could I not approve her? And she’s right. This book is a great fit for my blog.
Mila 2.0 by Debra Driza
Why: Because it’s Mila 2.0? It’s one of my most-anticipated books of 2013. I was really bummed when I got declined the first time, but now that I am approved, I am anxious to get to it. I wish I didn’t have so many other books to read first because I really want to read it now. NOW. Ha.
And that’s it for me this week. They are starting to pile up again. Just when I get the review books whittled down, they start up again. It’s because I don’t know how to say no. Put a pretty cover in my face (or on my computer screen) and I become a drooling mess of a sucker. Leave me a link to your STS posts and I will come visit. Happy reading!

SO happy that you got Mila 2.0!! I know you were so bummed when they declined you. I am really excited to get to it too. And seriously, they put up so many awesome books!! I wanted Revolution 19 and Prophecy so bad, but there’s no way I would be able to get to them in time. I did get a bunch of them though. *sigh* I couldn’t help it. Hope you enjoy all of them!!

I’m quite particular when it comes to historical books too, but Strands of Bronze and Gold sounds fantastic. I can’t wait to see what you think of it. Mila 2.0 I will probably read closer to release but it looks good. 🙂

    Lovely haul, Kara!

  3. AAHH STRANDS OF BRONZE AND GOLD! I am so excited for that one! I live the cover and a re-telling of Bluebeard sounds PHENOMENAL! MILA 2.0 is a novel I’ve heard mixed feelings about. It seems to be great, but the romance plot line seems to be off-putting, so I’m curious to see that you think of it, Kara! Wonderful haul this week!(:

  4. Awe what a great review request you got, I love when its clear that the author knows my policy and what they are getting into. I’m really excited for Mila 2.0, I hope we don’t get bitten by the pretty cover, Kara! Great haul!

  5. That cover for Broken Elements is beautiful! On top of that, it sounds really, really good. I hope you enjoy it! I look forward to your review.

Also I am dying to get my hands on Strands of Bronze and Gold. I requested it ages ago but still haven’t heard back. Hope it’s as amazing as it sounds.

  6. :O OMG, Strands of Bronze and Gold! I’m not much into historical but this one caught my attention too! I got Mila 2.0 last week and I’m so EXCITED to read it, but i too have other review books in front of it.

  7. I’m so freaking jealous! I’m not a fan of historical fiction but I read the blurb for Strands of Bronze and Gold on Goodreads and I have to have it, Mila 2.0 is at the top of my covergasm shelf and it sounds AMAZING! Haven’t heard of Broken Elements but I’m still jealous. Enjoy your drool inducing haul!

see what I grabbed this week at Read. Sleep. Repeat.

  8. I so know how you feel, I work my way through review books and then I realise I have a bunch all needing to be read asap!

These three look good, particularly the first, I think I want to read more hist. fic!

  9. I’ve got my eyes on Strands of Bronze and Gold too, Kara. The cover and synopsis were too gorgeous to pass it on. I really hope you liked all your books because they look like excellent reads and you have a very good taste 🙂 Will be looking forward to your reviews!

  10. Oh, I got a request from that author too, but I am on the fence. The cover’s really cool, but I’m trying not to go too crazy with accepting review copies, so now that I know you have it, I’ll go off of your opinion. 🙂
