Stacking the Shelves #20

Posted December 8, 2012 by Kara in Stacking the Shelves / 27 Comments

Welcome to Stacking the Shelves. Stacking the Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga at Tynga’s Reviews. This is where we showcase books we have received or bought during the week.

I got three books in the mail this week! I am expecting more as well, so hopefully I will get some of those next week for next week’s post. I also got one e-book that I have really been wanting for some time. It was on sale for 1.99, so how could I pass that up? I love those Kindle deals!

First, here’s the picture:

I got a copy of The Blessed by Tonya Hurley from Mickey at I’m a Book Shark. She didn’t like it, and so she passed it on to me. I am anxious to read it, but I suspect that I will not like it much either. However, there are a few reviewers I trust that liked it, so we shall see.
From Christina at Reader of Fictions I received a copy of Black City by Elizabeth Richards. She didn’t like it either. Ha! I love collecting blogger hand-me-downs from other readers who hated something. I’ll take one for the team. Sure I will! 😉
For review from Glass House Press I received a copy of Keeper of the Black Stones by P.T. McHugh.
The e-book I bought was Don’t Turn Around by Michelle Gagnon. I’ve been wanting this one for awhile. Sales are great! Ha. 🙂

That’s it for me this week. I had a really fun time receiving all of these too. I usually don’t get many books in the mail. What did you add to your shelves this week? Leave me a comment and I will come visit your posts!  Happy reading, guys!

I have Blessed that I got from a fellow blogger also. I have heard a lot of mixed things about it, but I am interested in reading it. I have also heard mixed things about Black City. I hope you like it. Don’t Turn Around sounds good. Great books this week!! I love getting stuff in the mail too. It makes me feel special!! Haha!!

  2. I just bought Don’t Turn Around thanks to you. I had no idea there was a sale!

I didn’t really like The Blessed. Actually I DNFd it. I got rid of my copy of Black City also, but I kind of regret it. I never even picked it up! Here’s hoping you like it more than Christina did.

  3. Oh God, The Blessed. That book used to hold my record for worst narrative head-jumping, but another book I read recently took that title from it. And since you have an ARC of it like I did, you’ll probably see all the same problems I did! Have fun with it~! I’m sure you can make it through.

I thought about getting Don’t Turn Around, but the excerpt of it I read and people pursuing justice through online stuff (including subjective justice) hit too close to home.

  4. WOW, I haven’t read the blessed but i’m kinda scared too, and i LOVED BLACK CITY! Haven’t read Don’t Turn Around but who can say no to a sale! =)

    -Keep on rocking Kara,

I wasn’t too keen on The Blessed but I hope you have better luck! Black City sounds pretty interesting, as does Don’t Turn Around. Enjoy!

  6. You can never go wrong with Kindle sales, heh. 😉 Black City sounds great, though! And Don’t Turn Around has a wicked cover. I anticipate your thoughts on all them. Happy reading!

  7. Oh, I’m interested to see what you think of Don’t Turn Around. There’ve been some good reviews for that one. And lol about Black City; I’m really suspicious of it, to be honest.

    Have a great week, Kara!

  8. Ooh I can’t wait for your review of Black City I hear that one’s like… racist or something. And is it just me or the Blessed cover is SO UGLY! Bahaha. Don’t turn Around was so much fun! It’s like an action movie!

  9. Bahaha, you have some ranty reviews coming! I look forward to those.

If you want MORE ranty books, I can send you Nobody But Us too. Do you want it?

I really liked the audio of Don’t Turn Around, though it could have had better transitions. Hope you enjoy your reads, or at least making fun of them later.

    • Hold on. I need to check the blurb on that one. NO THANKS. I’m picky about my contemporary and that blurb doesn’t interest me. Especially after reading your review. YUCK.

  10. Ooooh you got Black City!! SUPER curious about that one! Hope you enjoy ALL your goodies this week 😀 Thanks for sharing & for stopping by my StS earlier! Sorry it took me so long to get back 🙂

    Happy reading!

  11. Oooh …. Don’t Turn Around! That one looks very interesting! As does Black City, though I’ve heard lots of mixed reviews for that one.

That’s the great thing about books … you might love those few, even if your blogging friends didn’t!

    Enjoy the reads!
