Waiting on Wednesday #6

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme that is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine. This is where we post upcoming releases we are looking forward to.

Normally I participate in Top Ten Tuesday. But because the topic is one that I feel is kind if repetitive, I decided to participate in WOW this week instead. I call this my back up meme. And since I don’t usually post on Wednesdays, it ends up working out perfectly.
So what am I waiting on this week? SO MANY BOOKS. But here is my pick:

Blurb from Goodreads: Wren MacAvoy works as a coal miner for a domed city that was constructed in the mid-nineteenth century to protect the royal bloodline of England when astronomers spotted a comet on a collision course with Earth. Humanity would be saved by the most groundbreaking technology of the time. But after nearly 200 years of life beneath the dome, society has become complacent and the coal is running out. Plus there are those who wonder, is there life outside the dome or is the world still consumed by fire?

When one of Wren’s friends escapes the confines of the dome, he is burned alive and put on display as a warning to those seeking to disrupt the dome’s way of life. But Alex’s final words are haunting. “The sky is blue.” What happens next is a whirlwind of adventure, romance, conspiracy and the struggle to stay alive in a world where nothing is as it seems. Wren unwittingly becomes a catalyst for a revolution that destroys the dome and the only way to survive might be to embrace what the entire society has feared their entire existence.

So this is my pick for the week. Yeah, it sounds a little like the Hunger Games, and yeah it is another dystopia, but that cover! And I actually really have a thing for domes. I don’t have a ton of faith in St. Martin’s Press (they are really iffy for me), but because this sounds so fantastic, I am willing to take a chance.
What do you think? Leave me a comment and a link to your posts and I will try to come visit!

  1. Wow this sounds freaky I love it! I thought by the cover that it would be a steampunk but it sounds like a dystopian. It also reminds me a bit of Enclave–just the living under a dome thing. But it looks like it could be dark and intense–right up my alley! 😀

  2. This does sound really good! I like the cover a lot and I totally thought the same as Giselle, that it was a steampunk. I love dystopias! But I find that it’s getting harder and harder to blow me away with the setting without feeling like every other dystopia out there, I hope this one can do it! Great pick!

  3. Wasn’t sure about your comparison to THG until I reached the end-since my favorite element of THG was in the arena, I think this could be different enough to me. Excited to learn more!

    • I am optimistic too. I always try to remain optimistic unless at least 3 of my trusted bloggers hate it or I read it myself. It is a lovely cover. Of course i will stop by your WOW.

  4. Domes! Yeah! This looks and sounds great – St Martin’s doesn’t always blow me away, but we’ve had some fun times together. More a drinking buddy than a cuddle up kinda friend 😉

Awesome pick though, I’m going to stalk it!

    • Yes. St. Martins publishes a lot of crap. But they do publish good stuff too. It just depends. I agree with you. St. Martin’s is like your friend that gets too drunk at the bar. The night starts out great and you love them but little by little they start to get annoying the more they drink. It’s a sliding scale and right now I am somewhere in the middle. That made NO sense. Ha!

  5. I’m so excited for this one! I’m a little skeptical, but also really hopeful that this will wind up being an intriguing and unique read. I just LOVE the cover, so I’ll be sure to get my copy of this when it releases this week! 🙂 Wonderful pick this week, Kara! 😀
